Once Alice was laying in bed once more, Doc strolled over and scolded her older sister, insisting that she really must have some sort of death wish. Leo sat next to the bed in a chair, elbows resting on the mattress. He watched with a mildly amused expression as Alice got scolded, before a yawn escaped him, interrupting the bickering momentarily.
"Even L-Gen needs rest..." Doc spat, turning on her heel before storming off, mumbling to herself. Leo sighed, resting his chin on his hand lazily with a stifled yawn.
"Are you really going to stay here again? You'll have to come back to the apartment eventually." Alice scoffed with a mildly mocking type of amusement.
"Eventually isn't tonight." Leo muttered, letting his eyes flutter closed. "I don't want to be alone. I don't want to go back alone."
"Well then, get plenty of rest, Little Soldier." Alice cooed, peeling off one of her many blankets. She wrapped it around him gently, a small, sad smile resting on her pale lips. She ran a shaky hand through his wavy chestnut hair, biting her quivering lip. "Goodnight."
"G'night." He breathed, drifting off into a dreamless sleep. Alice watched, silently straining to sustain composure.
She understood that feeling a little too well. She hated being alone, and she didn't realize that untill Elle moved out. Once she was alone, she became even more distant and violent. Doc became a little worried with how withdrawn her sister had gotten, so she pulled a few strings and got Alice a partner. She wanted her to have someone else in her life, someone other than Elle and herself to rely on and trust.
Doc stood just around the corner, hands cupped over her mouth, as she looked at the clean white tiled ground. She was beginning to regret her actions.
See, Alice would do anything for those she cared about, which is how she had gotten so injured. Never before had she gotten seriously hurt on a mission, but this time, she had someone to protect. Someone other than herself that trusted and relied on her. So she put herself in danger in order to keep them safe. Them being Leo, or, as she so affectionately called him just now, her Little Soldier.
That meant that if Leo didn't step his game up, Alice would be dead in no time.
Another example: Even though she has a high fever, and needs the blankets she has, she selflessly gave him one. She completely disregarded her own well being in order to care for the one close to her.
Elle dropped her hands to her sides before sliding down the wall, sitting on the floor in a heap. She knew what she was about to do was even worse than last time, but she decided to do it anyway. Even though she knew the truth behind it, she would subject him to the hell that Alice was drowning in anyways.
She stood again, legs weak and shaky beneath her, before pulling out her phone and walking towards her office.
"Yes, Doctor Stein, I believe I may have found a new one for you to... You know." Doc whispered into the phone, closing and locking her door.
"Gender, age, field." The low voice on the other end responded monotonously.
"Male. Twenty. Assassin trainee. He's Mad Hatter's partner." She sighed, plopping into her leather chair. "I suggest a wolf for him as well, since it worked out so well for Doll."
"Please, describe him for me. His personality. I need to match it with an animal for both compatibility and to acquire the desired traits." Doctor Stein droned, getting a pen and paper.
"He's kind and caring, but strong and determined. He's curious but patient." She thought aloud, spinning in her chair slowly.
"Well, I would rather do a bear instead of a wolf, in all honesty." He sighed, scribbling something down.
