I turn the key, opening the door to my apartment. I walk in, leaving my shoes at the door and my phone on the counter, then collapse on my bed face down.
"Ugh... I can't keep this job. Not if it means risking my life." I get up from my bed and head over to my computer, turning it on. I open up the email from Mr. Morado and start to send a reply: a resignation letter. I finish giving my explanation as to why and hit send. I let out a breath of relief. 'Well... I'm glad I don't have to deal with that anymore. But that also means I'm without a job again...' I sigh and put my head in my hands. 'What am I gonna do now?'
I sit silently for several minutes before listening to my stomach attempt a whale's mating call. I giggle. 'I guess I better feed the monster before anything else.' I get up and walk into my kitchen, making a beeline for the freshly filled fridge. I make myself a ham and cheese sandwich before sitting down at the stools standing at the edge of my counter. I take a couple of bites before noticing something odd sitting on the counter next to me. A bouquet of beautiful, white flowers sit in a glass vase with a purple bow and a card tied to it. 'Where did those come from?' I turn the vase so I can see the card better and open it to read what's inside.
Did you know that white Chrysanthemums are a sign of loyalty and devoted love? Well, that's what I'm going to do. I shall devote my love and loyalty, to you.
Signed,
(Instead of a name, there is a flower drawn in purple ink.)'I shall devote my love and loyalty to you... What?' I stare at the card, trying to decipher who it might be from for several minutes before putting it down and finishing my food. 'I'm going to break my brain if I try to figure out who this person could be, so let's just forget about it.' I get up and grab the flowers. 'I should put you where there's more sun.' I look around the room that is used as my kitchen and living room before settling on a table sitting by a large window. 'There we are.' The flowers shift a bit and I notice a very small flower sticking out from among the majority. I pull it out and admire it for a couple seconds before noticing a small difference. This particular flower has small purple veins running throughout each petal. I smile and stick it behind my ear. 'You can stay there for now, just because you're so pretty.'' A knock on my door causes me to jolt, nearly making the flower fall. I head to the door and open it slightly.
"Hello?" I peek around the corner and spot Jeremy starting to walk away. "Jeremy?" He turns around and waves slightly.
"Uh... Hey! Is now a bad time?" I open the door more and stand off to the side.
"No, not at all! Come in." I watch as a big grin slowly grows on his face and he walks in the door with a slight bounce in his step.
I giggle at his actions, and walk into the kitchen. "Not a bad place you've got here." Jeremy says as he follows behind.
"I guess. So, what brings you here at 8 in the morning?" I question as I start to wash the dishes I used.
"I was just wondering if I could help you unpack anything, 'cause you did say that you had just moved in, and I know there's always a lot to do." He takes a seat on one of the stools and puts his arms on the counter.
"Oh! That would actually be a great help. As long as you don't mind, of course."
"Not at all! So, where should I start?" I look around the room at all the different boxes before deciding.
"Um... you could start by unpacking dishes and putting them in cupboards in the kitchen..." I point to the boxes in the corner. Jeremy gets off his seat after I finish speaking and grabs the box on top, taking it closer to the cupboards. "Are you really sure you want to start this early? Do you want coffee or anything?"
