The rush of dancing is amazing, however, it's something I can't experience every second of the day.
It was almost six o'clock and Bailey was expecting Sammy and I to be in our room and ready for supper.
Sammy had been messing around with my board as I danced. Probably trying to learn some tricks. He knew how to skate, but he didn't have a skateboard. Bailey couldn't afford to give us each one though we both knew how to skate. So a couple Christmases ago Bailey bought Sam and I a board we were supposed to share.
I'm not very good with sharing.
I ran down a dirt hill and left Sammy near a broken and paint needy fence.
I finally caught up to my board and stopped it in its tracks. I was panting and breathing heavily.
"Well this is a first." I said out loud. I've never gone this far past the farm. It was a forest opening surrounded by entangled and probably dangerous trees. "Awesome." I whispered.
If I could, I'd go and venture forth to find out what's deep inside the forest, but that will have to be for another day.
I hopped on my board and pushed myself back over the hills I was running down. Once I reached where I left Sammy, I couldn't find him. I should've known he would run off.
"Sammy!" I yelled. The sun was setting faster and the closer it got to supper time. If we weren't home, Bailey would be pissed. Not only that, but we'd be riding in the dark, it's not exactly safe after dark. Or at anytime really. "Sammy! I'm not joking! Get back here now you little shit!" I yelled into the thickening air.
It was getting colder and the air grew denser, night wasn't that far away.
"Boo!" yelled Sammy from behind me.
"You little weasel. Get on!" I yelled grabbing his arm with my nails gigging into his flesh and practically dragging him to walk.
We ran on the grass until we reached the road. As soon as my feet hit the concrete road I threw my board on the ground. I turned to see Sammy one last time before I skated off. It felt like I was running away from the darkness of the night.
When we were finally in front of the house I ditched my board behind the gap in the broken staircases that lead to the front door.
As soon as I had hidden my board, I heard Sam's tired footsteps running up to the house. Although he was exhausted, he managed to scale the side of the house seemingly effortlessly. I, again, struggled to get up with minimal noise and through the window.
"Where were you?" I heard a deep and infuriated voice say from a dark corner of the bedroom.
I gulped. This was it. It's the end. I'll never get out alive.
"I swear we weren't across the street near the flats." I rushed out.
"I asked you where you were." Bailey repeated sternly.
"There's this farm, I go there. Thats it." I said giving up. Now Bailey going to know my secret, and he'll take it away too.
"And what do you do in this farm?" he asked with a risen eyebrow.
I glanced at Sammy. He peered up at me through his thick glasses. I tried to send a message to keep his mouth shut with my eyes but I'm not sure if he understood.
"I lay there. It reminds me of Erin." I said. With that excuse, I could get away with almost anything. The thing is, I wasn't sure it would work right now, when I really needed it.
