Was it selfish for Haru to wish that it was him you were hugging and planting kisses of congratulations upon earning a gold medal instead of Rin? Was it selfish for him to want you back? To be able to feel your love and affection instead of it being given to one of his close friends?
Haru's pain of losing you still burned brightly and strongly as if you left him yesterday. It has been six years and it has never subsided. Haru never expected to feel like this in his whole life. To feel as if his heart has been ripped out of his chest and kicked in the gut. He never knew he would ever have to feel this pain.
Though his expressions never showed much or his tone was never laced with excitement or feeling, every grain and strand of his being loved all of you. Loved every smile you flashed, every flaw you showed, and every perfection he regretted not relishing.
Haru was full of regret. If only he gave you more of his time, actually stopped to look and pay attention. But no, amongst all the commotion of graduating and everyone's expectations in his last year of high school, he nearly forgot about you. Pushed you away. You gave him space, understood his troubles, helped him, tried to comfort him. But wow, did it hurt. It hurt you so much to see your first love ignore you, push you away. One day you decided enough was enough. The pain was too much. And you broke it off with him.

Haru looked at you and Rin, arms wrapped tightly around each other, his cerulean eyes vibrant but hurt. The commentator only rubbed salt and poured alcohol on his ever searing wound.
'What a lucky man ladies and gentlemen! The first gold goes to Rin Matsuoka from Japan! And also the first gold of his career! And there is his wife [F/N], proudly congratulating her husband!'
What a lucky man indeed.
