The next few weeks passed relatively fast and soon it was almost time for the first quidditch game of the season.
Practices were intense and increasingly strenuos. Dirk was pushing us harder than ever.
"Okay, so if we do a few more plays then we might be ready to defeat Ravenclaw. Uh, Charlotte, I'll release the snitch again for you." We ended up doing it twelve more times. Granted, I was now amazing at finding and snatching the snitch, but still!
Someone slapped me on the arm. It was Britt, because I was lost in thought again in the middle of History of Magic. I couldn't afford to do much worse in this class so I pinched my arms a few times to wake myself up and scratched out a few more sentences with my quill.
After a few minutes, I noticed I had become rather fixated on the bow-tie Professor Binns was wearing.
"Focus, Charlotte!" Britt whispered, also noticing that I had stopped taking notes.
I sighed but then the bell rung, signaling the end of the day. I leaped out of my chair and stuffed my books into my bag.
"Now I want two feet on how you think the wizard proclamation of 1674 effected life today. Thank you," Professor Binns said to no one in particular but drifted through a wall.
"Uh, a foot from Flitwick and now two from Binns? And we still have to do our potions essays about potions made at the full moon!" I cried out in frustration.
"Oh, you still have to do the full moon essay? I did that ages ago," Britt said cheerily, slinging her bag over her shoulder, "Well anyways, get to work now and maybe you can finish an essay by dinner. I can show you my notes if you need them."
I smiled gratefully and returned to the common room. I sat in one of the chairs next to one of the windows, flipping open my potions theory book and taking out a sheaf of parchment along with a quill. Out the window, I could see the leaves on the tree were beggining to change color- a sure sign that fall was coming, along with it the first game of the season and the halloween feast. The sky wasn't so bright, though. The clouds were darkening, sending the grounds into shadow.
I was about half way through my essay when Britt tapped me on the shoulder to go down to dinner and we met up with Valery in the entrance hall.
"Where's Lacey?" I asked.
"Oh, she had to go to potions class, she'll be late for dinner."
"You got out?!" I questioned, feeling quite happy for Valery as she had been working very hard to get up her grades.
"Yes!" Valery grinned proudly.
The tables were set with the usual gold plates and goblets and students were fliling in as usual.
Instead of sitting near the front as we normally did, Britt led us more towards the back so we sat next to the guys.
Adora walked towards me, a dissapointed look on her face. "Guess what?" without waiting for an answer she continued, "We have quidditch practice again! And look at the weather!" She gestured towards the ceiling which reflected the stormy weather outside. "I tried to tell Dirk but he wouldn't listen. He is set on beating Ravenclaw. I mean Ravenclaw! It's in the bag! Plus I have charms homework to do!" Adora walked off, huffily glaring at everyone and everything.
Quidditch practice tonight, though. I still had a lot of homework as well and this weather could give you a cold.
Dinner was finished quickly and it was time to go out to the pitch.
I waved goodbye to the others and walked to the changing room. The other girls were there, glum looks on their faces.
I could hear the rain pattering through the ceiling and my spirits plummented when a crack of thunder resounded through the grounds.
"I swear! This is illegal!" Cornelia muttered under her breath.
We trudged to the pitch, ankle deep in mud. We took off into the air and within minutes we were drenched and shivering.
"Keep it up! Looking ahead, on saturday we might be facing the same weather so keep going!" Dirk called from his postition in front of the goal hoops.
Soon enough I found the snitch but Dirk was too busy to notice so I decided to go up high in the sky to pass the time. As I passed the grey clouds, the ground sunk further and further away until I could barely make out my team mates.
I soared around a bit but flew back down so the others wouldn't get worried.
When I landed, I noticed Dirk was covered in mud and Fabian was laughing suspisciously. Dirk turned around slowly and tackled Fabian to the ground, the two slipping and sliding in the thick mud.
I walked over to Adora and Cornelia, "Uh, what's going on?..."
Cornelia replied, " Fabian tried to get back at Dirk for making us have practice during a rainstorm so he enchanted some mud to splatter on him."
Before long, Rufus and Rob piled into the wrestle but after an intense ten minute match, they separated, all laughing histerickly. They were soaked in mud, head to toe, all that was still clean were their eyes.
The guys approached us (the girls) with identical malicios grins crossing their faces.
"Oh snap," Adora whispered, as the guys sent streams of mud shooting out, spraying us so within minutes we were also soaked.
The seven of us trudged up the side and into the warm castle. There were muddy streams and footprints leading up to the Gryffindor common room and when we walked inside, the packed room turned to face us, shocked expressions everywhere.
"What happened?" they all wondered aloud.
"Don't ask," was the answer repeated by the team. I was soaked through my skin and shivering like a leaf on a tree.
After showering, I did my homework (finally!) and went to bed.
NEXT UPDATE WILL BE 10 READS AND 3 VOTES!!
