The days after the Masquerade Ball were not special or anything, though I did try to figure out who my mysterious dance partner was. Everyone seemed to act as usual, no one stood out. I descided that maybe they just saw me dancing alone and wanted to make my day by asking me to dance, nothing personal.
We were at lunch now, on Tuesday. For our International Coresspondance class, we just shared what was in our letters and began to write our next ones.
Our head of house, Professor Longbottom had told us this morning that we should be expecting two new girls in our year after dinner. They had to come late to school and were up in Professor McGonngal's office to get settled and sorted.
I was quite excited, it would be nice to get to know some new people for a change.
Since Halloween, the weather had changed considerably. It used to be slightly nippy but now it was frigid and we are expecting snow any day now.
Next period is History of Magic - oh joy.
We went straight there as we already had our bags and I sat in the back next to the window with Valery while Lacey sat in the front with Britt.
"Now for today's class we will be talking about legends and folklores," Professor Binns said in his usual, boring voice, but I sat up a little straighter, this was more interesting than Goblin rebellions. "This will be our subject for the next month or so. Our first stories are those told by Beetle the Bard. No doubt you have all heard of him.
"The first tale begins in a small town where an old wizard uses his magical pot to heal the muggles in his town. He was very old and growing ill, and not of any curable sickness but ill of age. The old warlock knew he didn't have much time left so he gave his pot to his vile son in the hope that he would use it for good deeds....."
Professor Binns continued on through the story, occassionaly inserting his opinion in here and there. I had already heard this tale countless times but I listened intently nonetheless.
The room was silent and listening to Professor Binns, who for the first time had made his class attentive and not fall asleep.
After an hour and a half of Beetle's stories, Professor Binn's finished with a story about a mad old wizard who tried to sell his daughter in law but instead mistakingly sold his pig.
The Grffindors hurtled straight out the door and up to the common room to see the new students immediatly after the bell rang.
Professor Longbottom was waiting for us and when we arrived, he lept up from his seat and strolled over to us.
"So, " he began and two girls walked over from the fireplace, "These are the two new students in the first year twins Morgan, " One girl nodded, she had dark raven colored hair and large brown eyes, "and Quinn," the other girl, who was very petite and had very light blonde hair ,which was almost white and blue eyes.
The two girls smiled shyly but stretched out their hands to be shaken. They didn't even look like they were related, let alone twins.
Professor Longbottom smiled and walked towards the portrait hole, saying over his shoulder, "I'll just leave you guys to talk."
"So..." Valery said awkwardly. The guys had already walked away.
"Uh, well I'm Morgan as you know, and this is my sister Quinn," Morgan said.
"Very nice to meet the both of you." I said politely.
We made it past our awkward start and chatted for a while. Turns out that they live in a house near Shell Cottage where Uncle Bill and Aunt Fleur live and have two older sisters in their sixth and seventh years.
