Caleb's POV

I walked back inside the house and sighed. I felt like a total jerk; I basically just cheated on my girlfriend and made the other girl feel guilty!

"Caleb? What's wrong?" Hayley asked when she saw me upset.

My eyes were actually watering. I felt so bad that I was going to cry.

I sighed and looked away so Hayley wouldn't see me. "Nothing. Just do your homework." I went downstairs and closed my door, thinking about what to do.

That's when I saw Katie's Spanish notebook.

I picked it up and opened it. The first page was a bunch of doodles, most of it my name. Caleb Logan was written everywhere! She even drew a drawing of me...which was actually really good.

Katie was a talented artist!

I stuffed her notebook into my backpack and then realized tomorrow was baseball tryouts!

I tried to go to sleep that night, but it was really hard; the stress of the triangle and baseball tryouts kept me up.

Hopefully I'd do okay.

The next morning I saw Katie at her locker; well, her locker was right across from mine.

I walked over and saw her try to run.

"Katie!" I grabbed her waist and flipped her around.

"Don't touch me!" She slapped my arm.

"Sorry." I couldn't help but smile. She's so cute when she's mad! Focus, Caleb! "Here. You left your notebook yesterday." I handed it to her.

"Thanks." She mumbled and walked away.

"Katie!"

"What?!"

"Can you come to my baseball tryouts after school? I kinda want someone there for me, but you know, Sydney won't come..." I said.

"I wonder why." Katie mumbled under her breath.

I grabbed her shoulders and looked her in the eye. "I'm sorry, Katie. Really, I am. But can you please come?"

Katie hesitated, then said, "Fine."

"Thank you!" I hugged her and then walked with her to Spanish.

It was silent almost the entire way before she said, "Why'd you kiss me yesterday?"

"Hmm?" I asked, pretending not to hear her.

"I mean, not that I didn't enjoy it, but why did you kiss me? You're dating Sydney." Katie asked again.

I hesitated. "I'm starting to fall for you, Katie. You're so beautiful and kind so I just couldn't help but fall for you. So, I kissed you. I'm sorry."

"I'm sorry. I ruined your relationship with Sydney!" Katie cried.

"I did, okay? It's not your fault. Let's not talk about this anymore. I'll meet you after school at the field." I said as I sat down in the classroom.

Katie nodded.

This was going to be an interesting day...

Katie's POV

I got to the field and sat near the top of the bleachers.

Caleb saw me and waved.

I waved back just as someone sat next to me.

"Oh, you're here." It was Sydney.

"And so are you." I said back.

"Why are you here? I'm his girlfriend." Sydney said.

"Oh really? Because yesterday I thought you said you dumped him." I said, getting fired up.

Sydney snorted. "I was only playing hard-to-get. Besides, he loves me."

"You sure about that?" I said as I pointed at Caleb who came running over to hug me.

"Hi! I'm glad you came!" He said as he hugged me. When he pulled away he saw Sydney and scratched his head awkwardly. "S-Sydney? Why are you here?"

"To cheer on my boyfriend, of course!" Sydney said as she got up and kissed him.

Caleb immediately pushed her off and yelled, "Are you cray? You broke up with me!"

"Now that's crazy, Caleb! I love you—"

"No, you don't! Just leave, Sydney, please; I only want Katie here." Caleb said.

I saw Sydney's eyes tear up before she stood up and said, "Fine! Have fun with your new girlfriend." Before stomping away, she whispered to me, "Good luck. The war begins."

Caleb scooted closer to me. "I'm sorry about her."

"It's okay, she's just trying to make me mad." I said.

Caleb nodded. "Anyway I gotta go, see you after tryouts?"

"You bet! I'll be right here." I said.

Caleb smiled and kissed me before he left.

I blushed. I guess he really likes me!

And I really like him, too.
