How naive was I... To think that I could be the one to bring down Gotham's most-wanted criminal. If only I had minded my own business. If only I had looked the other way just like the rest of the cops in this damned city. Maybe, just maybe then, my family would still be safe.

"Ouhh, what's the matter, doll face?" I snap back into reality as his mocking voice booms over the loud music and right next to my ear. "Are ya enjoying yourself, hm?"

"It's nothing," I force a smile on my face and hope not to anger the green-haired man as his menacing eyes pierce into mine. His presence is overwhelming and I needed to get away. I needed to breathe.

Using the restroom as an excuse, I asked to leave temporarily. He motioned for his men to let me through as I swiftly exited the exclusive VIP lounge. I could hear the music blasting even louder as I slipped through the dancing crowd. As soon as I was out of sight from the VIP area, I made my way to the bar. I'm going to need quite a few more shots if I'm going to make it through the night.

"What's a pretty lady like you doing here drinking by herself?" I was startled by the sound of a stranger who sat down in the stool right next to me. "Can I buy you a drink?"

I turned to see a handsome young man smiling at me. He had the most genuine smile I had seen in a very long time. Those are hard to come by when you're constantly being associated with the infamous King of Gotham City.

"I think I've probably had enough to drink, thanks for the offer, though" I smile politely and was about to walk away when he stops me.

"Alright, fair enough," he hopped off the stool and held out his hand in front of me, waiting for me to shake it. "Look, I'm Asher and I'm new to this city. So, will you be so kind as to at least let me have one dance?"

Asher grabs my hand before I can say anything and leads me towards the dance floor. This is bad. This is really bad. I begin to panic as I should not be seen with anyone else at the moment, needless to say another man. Everyone knows full well what the Joker is capable of, and what he will not hesitate to do. I can't risk putting another person in harms way. But I found a certain comfort in the way he held onto my hand to guide me through the crowd, and I couldn't help but let the music take over my body. It could be due to the alcohol in my system, who knows? But for the first time since I met him, the Joker, I was able to experience something remotely close to fun and freedom. Asher then snakes my phone from my hands and adds his own number, not forgetting to text himself with it so he has mine as well.
