Just as Asher and I were getting carried away by the rhythm, that's when I saw it. The cold eyes of the Joker, blazing through the crowd and staring right into my own. A wave of fear and panic wash over me but before I could push Asher away, one of his friends yanks him away by the arm.

"What the hell are you doing?! That's the Joker's lady. You've gotta be nuts, dancing with her." His friend stated as he forcefully dragged Asher out of the club.

Just then, the music died down and the crowd became silent. I turned to see his slicked-back green hair making its way towards me with all of his henchmen following behind. People frantically moved out of his way, clearing a path that lead straight towards me. The Joker paused in his tracks to size up a larger man who was clearly under the influence of alcohol and was reluctant to move out of the way.

"Somethin' wrong?" A frown crept onto the Joker's face as he nonchalantly reached for his gun and pressed the barrel against the man's forehead. "That's what I thought," he said through his taunting grin as the larger man raised his arms in defeat and slowly backed down.

Each step he took towards me made my breathing increasingly uneasy. "Why, don't let me stop ya. I'd hate to ruin all the fun you were havin' with your new acquaintance," his tone filled with fake sympathy as he stood before me with both hands resting on top of his cane. I find myself unable to speak as I watch him crack his neck both ways before fixating his gaze on me once again.

"It's not what it looks li-" my words were cut off as I felt the back of his gun make contact with my face, knocking me to the floor. Gasps and screams were heard throughout the club.

He runs a hand down the side of his head, smoothing out his hair, "and what exactly did it look like?" He questions in a taunting voice.

I cup my throbbing cheek as I hold back tears that are threatening to escape, "I'm sorry."

"Tsk, tsk, what a shame. Such a pretty face." He inhales a sharp breath between his teeth as he kneels down so our faces are leveled and brushes a hand over my cheek. "Even the best can't avoid a good lovers' quarrel." I can almost hear the smirk in his tone.

Lover's quarrel? I'd hardly call it that.

I wince as he steps past me, elegantly swinging his cane. His men help pull me to my feet as I stagger out the front door following closely in the Joker's footsteps. The fresh cut on my cheek throbbing and bleeding.
