This time, I woke up with warmth filling my body. A satisfying warmth that I wanted to wake up to everyday. It felt too good to be true. I was snuggled up against Nate's side in his bed and I was wearing his sweater and pajama pants judging by the scent. He must have changed my clothes for me. The thought made me blush. On the inside, elated happiness swept through me.

He had accepted me as his mate.

I snuggled closer to him and he shifted to wrap his arms around me, unconciously. Smiling, I kissed his nose. His eyes flickered open, wide and alert. Once his gaze found mine, his whole demeanor visibly relaxed.

"Morning." I said.

He smiled. "Morning, pretty."

If possible, more warmth flooded into me and I pressed my face against his chest. He chuckled, "I could get use to this."

"Me, too." I replied honestly.

Then he sort of ruined the moment. "What happened last night was pretty hectic. I just want you to know that nothing like that will happen again. I'll always be here as long you're here. Can you promise the same?"

I hesitated and his eyes narrowed. "Lily. You have to promise me you won't try another stunt like that."

"I promise."

He rewarded me with a kiss that didn't last long enough.

"And if you ever feel the darkness again, tell me right away."

"You have to do the same." I told him and he nodded.

I thought the conversation was over, but it wasn't according to Nate. "Xander told me about what happened with Lizzie. He also told me you didn't like her. But I know there's more to it. I just about went crazy when I heard you were in the basement. That must've been hell."

A distant reminder of the basement flickered in my memory and I pushed it away. "Yeah. It was hell." I said the words with no emotion and he must've understood it was a touchy subject because he said nothing more.

I hated myself for ruining the conversation like that, so I said jokingly, "At least I got to miss training."

Nate laughed. "Lucky you."

He suddenly jerked up, as if shocked. "Shit!" He jumped out of the bed and quickly started to change into different clothes. He was fast, too. By the time I got out of my daze, he was buttoning his jeans.

"Whoa. Where are you going?" I asked.

"Training. I completely forgot." He ripped off his shirt and I got a perfect view of his sculpted chest and stomach that left me in a distracted state.

But it was over as soon as he put a new shirt on. "What are you waiting for? Get up." Nate said.

"What? Why?"

He walked over to the bed and grabbed my ankles. "Because you have to come to training, too." And then he pulled me off the bed by my ankles. I slid down toward him and he was between my knees. I groaned. "Go by yourself."

"And endure the long and hard day without you? No, thanks."

He picked me up and threw me on the carpeted floor.

"What about your scent?" I asked. Our scents had sort of mingled together for a while and anyone who came near would have noticed.

Nate checked the time and cursed. "There's no time for both of us to take a shower."

"We could always take the shower together."

He paused and slowly looked at me, both brows raised. "Isn't that my line?"

I smirked from the floor. "Does it matter?"

Nate looked like he was seriously contemplating the showering together thing and I secretly hope he said yes. But then he shook his head with a rueful expression. "No. It won't be a quick shower. You're too distracting." He went into the bathroom and started to brush his teeth.

Was I suppose to take that as a compliment?

I shrugged nonchalantly. "Fine. Let's see what the pack thinks about us, then.'

"What? No! We can't do that."

"Why not?"

He spit into the sink and rinsed his mouth. "You know how I said I rejected you to protect you? Well, I wasn't lying.  You know who I work for, right?"

I snorted. "Who doesn't? It's obviously the Council."

I had actually done some digging to get that information. That digging would've earned me another day in the basement. At least I now knew that Nate worked for the Council pretty much his whole life as a warrior. He was an orphan, too. Any information about his parents was completely unknown.

"Yes, well, when you work for the Council, they send you on some pretty risky missions. Thanks to that, I have way too many enemies than a normal person should. Basically, if anyone found out you were my mate, they would most likely use it against me. So, we've got to keep this a secret for now."

I groaned again and sprawled out on the floor. "You suck."

He smirked. "I know. Now, get up!"

"God, you are so annoying." I got up and opened his door slightly. I looked both ways down the hall. "Wish me luck, babe." I said before making a mad dash to my room.

I was in luck. No one had noticed me at all. I made it to my room safely. I obviously didn't have time for a shower. So I put on a pastel yellow long sleeve and light jeans. I was in a bright mood for once. I kept Nate's clothes stashed in my closet. As the final touch, I tied my hair up to reveal my face and spritzed perfume on crazily.

I looked in the mirror before I left and did a double take. I didn't look goth at all. I just looked like...well...extremely pretty.

I practically skipped down the stairs and ran outisde. There was, unfortunately, no time for breakfast. I was at least half an hour late to training. But, so was Nate.

I saw him getting interrogated by his friends and barely held in a laugh at his annoyed expression. I stood at the edge of the crowd of pack members and met their curious gazes with a happy smile.

Nate turned to us, finally. "Everyone, pair up!"

In the end, everyone had a partner except for me. Figures. I walked up to Nate and tried to look as normal as possible, so as to not give away anything. "I don't have a partner."

Nate glanced at me then did a double take, his eyes widening. I could definitely detect lust in his expression. "Lily?" He whispered almost inaudibly.

I winked and he broke free of his daze. "Right. Um, you can partner up with...Gage." Gage turned out to be another one of Nate's friends that I had apparently missed. But when Gage came up to me and Nate, I instantly recognized those crystal eyes widening. And then he said the same word he said that one morning after Xander's party.

"Fuck."

He obviously seemed to have found me quite familiar, too.
