Chapter 9:

“She’s doing okay, we are trying everything we can. But she really did cut real deep. And we found that she had more scars on her arm.” The Doctor sounded concern with a clip board in his left hand and on his right he had a pen. He was a tall thin guy with glasses; he looked like he was in his 30’s.

“I didn’t know Alexis’s was harming herself!” I had tears in my eyes and I tried to hold them in.

“Well she can’t stay alone know, she said she has no family so I think she is going to stay with you guys, well if that’s fine with you two.” Dr. Ryan said, I would love for Alexis to stay with us. Because we have an extra room in the house.

“Of course Alexis can stay with us but, can we go see her?” Chres questioned, because he knew I was speechless, and scared.

“Okay, just sign these papers conforming Alexis may stay with you.” Dr. Ryan passed us some papers. “There is also something in the paper I just gave you saying that you do want Alexis taking a program were she goes twice a week. So her addiction can stop. But you may go see her after the papers are filled out.” We went to go sit down and fill out the paper.

“Baby” Chres had his nose on my shoulder.

“Hmm” I was busy writing down on the papers Dr. Ryan gave me.

“Why was Alexis cutting herself?” He still had his nose on my shoulder. I looked up from the papers and put my nose on his forehead.

“Alexis has been through a lot in live you know, her mom killed herself when Alexis was only eight. Once her mom passed away her stepdad tried doing…things with her. And around that time she and I became friends. I told the school counselor. And the abusing had stopped but her sisters and her got separated to live in foster homes. Alexis’s foster home parents decided to adopt her. Later in high school people called her bisexual because she was always hanging out with me. And you know how people are cruel these days.” Alexis did go through a lot stuff in her life and me not being there must have really killed her inside. 

I got back to finish doing the papers. I signed my name on it and gave it to Dr. Ryan. Chres and I got taken to Alexis’s room.

I knocked on the door. To her room.

“Come in” A week voice called from inside a room. I opened the door and Alexis was there on the bed with needles on her arms. And a white cloth wrapped around her left hand. Alexis is naturally a light color. But she was SO pale it was no comparison.

“Hey Alexis!” I went straight for her and gave her a hug. Chres gave her a hug too.

“How you feeling?” I asked sitting down on the foot of the bed and holding her left hand. While Chres sitted on the chair in the room.

“Better, I’m sorry I ruined our girl’s night out.” Alexis lay her head back.

“It’s fine, but a birdy told me you were cutting yourself more than just once.” I told Alexis, I was still holding her hand. She removed her hand from mine. And looked down.

“I wasn’t doing anything wrong, okay. If you’re going to keep questioning I want you to leave.” She had tears in her eyes.

“I’m sorry, to soon. But I have good news; you’re going to stay with me and Chres!” Chres got up from the chair he was sitting on and put his arm around me. And smiled at Alexis confirming that he did want her to stay at the house.

“I don’t know can’t I just stay at my house?” She sounded upset.

“No you cannot, we legally have to take care of you now. And you have to go to this program every week twice a day.” I looked up at Chres.
