Richard sat at his father's desk thinking about the news he had just received. His brother and father's lawyer just told him that he had received his father's entire estate! But, because his father wasn't dead, just in jail his siblings got nothing. The worst part, though, was that someone had been murdered for it. Although he had had no idea who his father had been talking about when he admitted to murdering a Charles Dervish. In all the lessons his father had taught him about the family business, he had never once heard him mention a Charles Dervish. Later, when Richard visited his father in jail, he told him that Charles Dervish was the owner of the company that was their competition in the oil industry. Now, in the lessons his father had told him he had mentioned a company that was in the exact same business as they were but had been founded one generation after theirs. But, he had also been told that this company wasn't as wealthy as them just yet but could be a "possible threat". Apparently, his father had mislead him about the circumstances. He later discovered that this opposing company was besting them and that was why Mr. Dervish had been killed. But, before he died he had signed a document with his father stating that in the event that one of them died the other would get full control unless the other could produce an heir to pass the now shared company down to. Since Mr. Dervish had no known children to speak of Mr. King received full control but, because he was then arrested the business went to Richard because there was no proof that he had any involvement in the murder.
