"I missed you, sweetheart," greeted me my best friend Mia.
"I missed you too," I replied and hugged her warmly.
It was the first day of school after the summer holidays. The first day in the 12th grade. That meant only 2 more years and then I could move away and study. Actually, I had nothing against high school, but after my graduation, I could finally stand on my own two feet.
"Have you heard yet that we are getting a new one? His name is Maxim, but everyone calls him Max and he's 18," Mia told me when we entered the building. She always knew everything about everyone. And that as the first one. How she managed it was still a mystery to me.
"Really? Do you already know the names of his parents? And his blood type?" I asked amusedly. She just gave me a dry side glance and commented on it with a "Ha ha".
"Jo Nica! Mia!", it suddenly came from behind. We turned around and looked into Jacob's face. He was a grade above us and something like our big brother.
"Jake," we greeted him happily.
"Where did your hair go?" I asked and stroked his millimeter cut.
"New year, new me," he explained.
"That applies to New Year's Eve. Not after the summer holidays," corrected Mia.
"Even if I did, never say something like that again," I said with a grin and walked towards my locker. I couldn't stand those New Year's Eve sayings. I didn't believe that you could change from one day to the next. In the end, it didn't matter if it was January 1st or May 24th."What did you do during the holidays?" Jacob asked me, leaning against my neighbor's locker.
"I worked almost the whole three months. In the small bookstore in the city," I replied. His face seemed surprised.
"Why did you work? I mean, you don't need it at all". Actually, he was right. My parents each had their own business and were very wealthy. So we didn't really lack money. They didn't live together anymore but had split up in good fortune. I lived with my dad, in the high society district of our city, right next to Mia.
"You should know me long and well enough by now to know that I can't just sit at home for long. And besides, neither you nor Mia was in town. That's why I looked for a job. Quite simply," I replied and closed the locker door.
"Okay, I should have really thought of it."
"I gotta go. Where's Mia?" I asked Jake but Mia herself answered the question by calling me. "See you in the break," I said to Jake and went to my best friend. In the classroom, Mia and I greeted the others. We went to our regular place at the back, the last row, in the left corner. We sat for three years, in every single compartment, on this place and everyone knew it. That's why no one ever sat there. Until today.
"That's our table," Mia said to the guy.
"I don't think so," he said bored.
"There is a single seat, also in the back. Where nobody will bother you. Could you perhaps change your mind?" she asked now, a bit annoyed, but nevertheless friendly.
"If that seat is so great, why don't you sit down and leave me alone," he replied without any emotion in his voice.
"Are you serious? Why don't you go sit down on this damn seat and leave us our table? Geez. What is your problem? What's so hard about simply putting yourself into action," I shouted now. I've always been the quieter of the two of us, but when someone annoys me, I could get uncomfortable.
"Come on, let him be, we'll sit somewhere else," Mia suggested and pulled me away by my elbow.
"No! We have been sitting at this table for years and he is the first day here and thinks he is somebody. Let him move his fucking ass and move around."
"Veronica, Mia! What's going on here?" our teacher shouted, suddenly standing in the room.
"Mrs. Blair, you also know that we sit at this table every year. He can sit at the single seat, but he refuses," Mia complained to our teacher.
"I really don't have the time nor feel like dealing with it now, you're all old enough. Mia sits down at the single table and Veronica, you will sit at your beloved table next to Maxim".
"Mrs. Blair, can't he sit at the single table? That is totally unfair," it came from Mia.
"Don't argue otherwise you'll all have to do detention," she said and demonstratively struck the table. Mia sighed annoyed and sat down on the chair. I dropped onto my chair and put my bag on the floor.
"Asshole," I hissed.
"Bitch," he gave back.
"I hate you"
"Right back at you"Well, guys. This is it. It was harder to translate it than I expected lol but anyway what do you think. I hate writing the first chapter. Cuz first chapters are always kinda boring don't you think?
Be nice, please. Hope you like it xx
