My Day Of Bliss

After my first day with the guys went awfully well. I had a feeling we would get along and we did, for the most part. There was always the occasional scuffle but other than that, it was all good. We all had our moments with each other but lover boy and I had something I can only describe as a scene out of a Nicholas Sparks novel.

It was a dreary looking day but I forced my mother to let me go to the park. When I arrived there though, the only one present was you-know-who. He was on the basketball court, shooting hoops, when I approached. On my way to him, an annoying little kid skidded by me on his bike. Giving me a quick dirty look, he continued on his ride around the park.

"Hey" I said nonchalantly when I finally reached him. He looked over and gave me a smile that is still burned into my memory. The braces were gone and he looked almost surreal.

     "Hey." he responded.

"Where's everyone else?" I asked. Honestly though, I didn't really give a shit where everyone was. This was the first time we'd been alone together.

"I don't know. I guess they couldn't come today." He responded. I nodded my head and began to bounce the ball around.

"Hey, do you want to play kickball?" He asked. For those of you who don't know, I love kickball. If he hadn't already wedged his way into my heart, then he had defiantly found a spot. That used to be one way to make me like you; to offer to play a good game of kickball. I nodded  enthusiastically but then furrowed my brow in confusion.

"How are we going to play? There's only two of us." I asked.

"I had to bring my brother's with me. I'm sure they'd want to play." Then as if on cue, a little boy riding a tricycle came onto the court. Well, if he treats me the way he looked at me, this was going to be a long game.

"That's Logan," he said pointing to the little boy. "And that's Theo over there." He pointed into the distance and I saw another boy, a little younger then me, riding his bike towards us.

"Cool. Nice to meet you." I said to the younger one. But he didn't seem like he cared much. Then the second boy rode up next to us.

      "Who are you?" Theo asked.

"I'm Jessica." I said smiling but he didn't return it.

"Dude, why are you playing with a girl?" he asked turning to his brother. He just shrugged and then proceeded to ask them if they wanted to play with us. Logan agreed excitedly while Theo took longer to convince. Soon all four of us were playing kickball. For the first ten minutes I was doing OK and then my asthma decided to kick in.

"Are you OK?" I reached first base and as his brothers looked on indifferently, looked at me with concern.

"Yeah, I'm OK. It's just my asthma." I responded, breathless.

"Or it's because she's fat." Theo said, making his way towards us. I have struggled with my weight my entire life, especially when I was younger. I'm curvy now, but I my stomach was as round as a ball. At this time, I was still very sensitive about my size and cared what people said. I felt like I was going to cry, then my one and only did his thing, saying said:

"Leave her alone." At his words, my tears slowly receded back into my eyes and my stomach began to flutter with butterflies. I wished it would just stop, I was beginning to get annoyed. After that, we resumed our play but not for long. The sky made an awful sound and it began to drizzle. To me though, it was magic. Every single moment we played in the rain, it was like a slow motion picture. I took in everything; the way his eyes seemed to shin, his almost shoulder length hair drenched with sweat and rain. In that moment, I knew that I liked him, like a lot. But soon the moment ended when I heard a loud car horn. We all looked towards the park entrance to see a silver truck. I groaned.

"Do you know who that is?" He asked. I nodded and then turned to them.

"It's my father." I said sadly. Knowing my dad, I knew he was fuming. "I have to go."

"Really? Why?"  He asked. My stomach did somersaults. It sounded like he didn't want me to leave.

"My dad must be really mad that I didn't come home when it started raining." I responded. "I'll see you guys later." Then I grabbed my ball and slowly walked towards my dad's truck. The three of them walked beside me and as I climbed into the truck, I watched as them walked away. I watched as he looked back and I wished with all my heart that he would be at the park tomorrow. As my father gave me an ear full, all that was on my mind was him. I suddenly wanted to see him everyday, every hour, every second. And for a little while, I thought he'd feel the same about me. But, man,  was I in for a rude awakening the next time we met up.
