*Serenah’s POV*

Lucy and I watched as Taka the trader walked out the front door; yeh that’s right – I don’t believe all that crap Cleo was trying to brainwash us with. Cleo hates Lucy and I anyway; and didn’t want us to go out of the house with all the goody two-shoes. I feel sorry for Minigeisha or should I say Esmeralda. I seriously think the name Esmeralda is awesome – it sounds like something from a video game.

I nodded towards Lucy and we headed towards the room where Cleo, Taka and Minigeisha had walked into… a bedroom... hmm. I heard voices coming from the closet – they’re seriously in the closet? Lucy gave me a questioning look – she must me confused too.

We creeped up to the closet door and slowly opened it to find that it wasn’t actually a closet and was in fact a smallish room with everything concrete but a small table with torture tools on it. Yeh, it’s cool, but right now all I can think about it the fact that pretty much one of my only friends are lying there on that table with a knife at their neck.

Lucy and I creeped up closer to see that Cleo was talking to Minigeisha, “Do you really hate me that much? To go over to the dark side and betray me – you even went as low as spying!”

“I-” Minigeisha was interrupted.

“WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO KILL YOU?” Cleo screamed.

“No, but-” she was interrupted again.

“DON’T TALK! I DON’T HESITATE IN KILLING MY ENIMIES OR ANY OTHER USELESS CHILDREN LYING AROUND!” Cleo screamed, before saying in a voice as cold as ice, “You know what I did don’t you? You were probably even watching you brat,” I shivered; gee I could cut this tension with a knife if I had one. Cleo swirled towards me, whoops I may have said that out loud. Before neither Cleo nor I could talk; I saw a knife go flying through the room, piercing through the air and making a high pitched screech as it went.

Everything seemed to go in slow motion; Cleo’s face turned to shock as she moved to the side to dodge the knife, Minigeisha sitting up as if she was never tied down. I watched as Minigeisha pulled out a knife with a ruby handle and plunged in into the Cleo’s back. Cleo’s eyes widened in surprise. A look of accomplishment came onto Minigeisha’s face before the knife which was once soaring through the air like a bullet stabbed into Minigeisha’s upper stomach. Like Cleo, her eye’s widened in surprise.

Both Cleo and Minigeisha collapsed; Minigeisha back into a lying position and Cleo backwards, before she hit her head on the stone table causing her to fall to the side.

I just stood there like a dummy, my mouth wide open as I stared. I’ve never felt so helpless in my life. For once in my life I had made a friend, but she was taken away from me. My whole life before coming to this house one tragic Halloween, I had had just one friend. His name was Joseph and he was my best friend from Kindergarten to year 8, when he made some new friends and began completely ignoring me. After he started ignoring me I got my revenge; let’s just say he will never stay home alone again because apparently his house is haunted. But still; Minigeisha is my only friend who hasn’t annoyed me to pieces, betrayed me (yes I’m talking about Taka) and is also someone who I can tell everything to.

Realisation hit me – where had the knife come from in the first place? I whipped my head around to the door to see a startled and guilty looking Lucy. Oh my god Lucy you didn’t!

“S-Ser-renah…” I heard Minigeisha stutter; I’ll deal with later.

“Lucy, go find Taka,” I said to Lucy and I know I may seem crazy but Taka seems to have been Minigeisha’s lifelong friend. She and Minigeisha’s friendship is something I’ve always been jealous of and I’ve always felt like the third wheel but still, I respect that.
