“Stop.”
“No thanks.”
“Seriously, stop.”
“Nah, I’m having fun.”
“Lucas Robert Hemmings, stop.it. Or I’ll steal Pengy while you’re sleeping and feed it to…I don’t know…an alligator!”
He burst into giggles at my attempt at sounding menacing and I couldn’t help but giggle with him. He had been non-stop poking me for the past fifteen minutes and despite my distinct distaste, he just wouldn’t stop.
“Nope, I’m gonna keep poking you because A) I know you wont actually feed Pengy to an Alligator. B) it’s fun!” He exclaimed, still chuckling. I rolled my eyes at him, focusing on my phone. Just as he’d said, he continued to jab his finger into my arm and I did my best to ignore him.
“Paaaisssllleeeyyyy,” he whined. “Pay attention to meeee.”
I held in a giggle. This kid was just too cute for his own good.
It had been a week since we’d all met and since then Ashton and I had avoided each other as much as possible. I had gotten to know the boys, immediately hitting it off with Luke. He seemed to be the complete opposite of Ashton—he was sweet, caring, and insecure. Personally, I found that last quality especially adorable.
Simon had decided for me that Luke would be the one I’d fake date, and I didn’t argue. Calum and Michael were quite sweet too, but Luke was the one I had hit it off with the most.
“Ew, why would you want to touch it?” Ashton sneered at Luke as he walked into the living area of the tour bus where Luke and I were sat.
“Come on man,” Luke sighed. “Why do you have to be such a jerk sometimes? Paisley is so sweet!”
I blushed at this comment, for no one had ever called me sweet before, let alone stood up for me. “Thanks, Luke,” I mumbled. He flashed me a grin.
“Whatever, love birds,” Ashton rolled his eyes, emphasizing his distaste. “Get a room.”
I scoffed at him, “You’re such a sourpuss.”
He looked as if he was about to fire back an insult when Michael and Harry came running in, tripping over each other as they went. Before any of us could ask why they were running, Liam darted in, yelling, “Get back here!”
Harry came up behind me, using me as his shield. “Save me, Paisley,” he whimpered, stifling a laugh. I giggled as I spread my arms out as if to build a wall around him, “It’d be an honor, Mr. Styles.”
Liam, however, had other ideas. He lifted me up by the waist, moving me to the side so he could gain access to Harry. I squealed when I felt arms wrap around my hips, only to see it was Luke. “Calm down, love,” he laughed easily, burying his face into the crook of my neck. “It’s just me.”
To anyone else it this would’ve made us look like we were actually going out, which is what we were going for I suppose. But I had quickly learned that Luke is shy and enjoys cuddling very much, so this gesture wasn’t one of great measure. I still liked it though. I loved hugs and cuddling no matter whom or what was initiating it. And Luke was really warm…so yeah, that was nice too.
My gaze caught Ashton’s from across the room and his contemplative expression turned cold. I sighed and looked away. I was hoping we could start over. But I guess that was only wishful thinking for it appeared he wouldn’t be up for that anytime soon. And to be completely honest, I wasn’t so sure I was either.
All I knew was this time, I wasn't going to let him get to me.
Or at least I was going to try not to let him get to me.
