Chapter 2

I had made it down the canyon and was now on my way to my mom's house. There were still a few things I wanted to keep with me and a few other things that I wanted to put in storage. I had decided to sell all the houses except two. Those houses were my mom's and my grandparent's. I kept my mom's so I would have a place in the city to go to and my grand parent's for a more permanent place.

I was in the neighborhood where I had spent twelve years of my life playing and having fun. Now it showed no place for me to be rejoicing now. All it held now was a reminder that I was alone in the world. Okay so I wasn't entirely alone I had a cousin that was alive and well. But other then that I had no real mother to go to and I had no father there for me in the toughest of times.

I slowed as neared the house. It still looked the same from when I was little. A little faded and empty but still the same. It wasn't big but it wasn't small either. It was a plain white house with a few bits of red and Christmas wreath above the garage. Light was starting to show over the horizon when I had parked in the garage.

The house was a bit cold and had an eerie feeling to it. The white leather couches were still in the original spots and so was the big TV. The desk that once held a computer was now gone and in its place the old desk, cleared out of old papers. The kitchen still had the table, a lot smaller now, in the center and the fridge was empty. The cupboards had some microwaveable food and canned food.

I then made my way up the stairs that I had fallen on-both ways-since I could remember. I looked in my sister's, Saliese, room. It was still yellow with Nuggets pictures. I had given and sold all of her clothes and had given the rest of her things to her friends-or at least I hope I did. I sighed remembering all the times we had fought and the time she had punched me in the stomach when I was seven.

I then looked into my youngest sister's room, Alisire. She was only ten and had survived for another two weeks after the "accident". Her room was pink and with the shades closed looked like the inside of a very well decorated cave. I gave away most of her things and gave some to charity. I grabbed her dresser and proceeded to move it down the stairs. I placed it by the front door and went back up to my mom's room.

It was the biggest room in the house and the only one with a walk in closet. I took down some of her jewelry and set it in a box. I looked around for something else that I could take with me. My hand stumbled across some cloth. I took it down and took one look at it and then put it back. It was my dad's uniform and I couldn't stand to look at it.

I went down the stairs and loaded my car up. I took one last glance at my first home and then got in my car and headed to the storage. I placed the dresser in it with the other things I had decided to keep for another time. I felt a tear fall from my eyes. I wiped it away and made my way to the nearest church.

I never before felt the need or urge to go to church. But after what happened I went at least once a week or prayed once a week. I sat down in a pew towards the back and kneeled. I prayed and thought about my family and friends and was praying to God that he would keep all safe from harm's way. I then asked him to give something or someone to help me get through my problems.

I left and visited some stores. I was in a borders looking at the cheesy novels when I noticed someone keeping me in their vision. I put it off thinking that I was mistaken and that it was a coincidence that I was in his line of vision. I went to the books I liked and got one that I had been forgetting to get every time I came here. I got two CDs a movie and a frozen drink from the café.

I went to another store a few miles away and got myself some lunch. I looked at the clothes looking to buy something to wear tomorrow. I was looking at a cute halter top and a pair of light blue jeans when it was again I noticed someone watching me. At first I thought it was someone different. But then the features of the man at Borders came to me clear as day-I was a lot better at getting facial features.

He was a tall guy that was about six and a half feet. He had shoulder length brown hair put back into a small ponytail. He was wearing an overcoat that made him look like he was from an old western movie my grandpa used to watch. I got the clothes paid for them and went to my car. I kept looking over my shoulder and every time he would be somewhere behind me.

I stopped looking and let myself walk calmly to my car. It was then that I got attacked by some man asking for my money. I got him off of me very quickly and had him on the ground. He was knocked out and I took that time to get inside my car and leave. I drove down the road not really paying attention to where I was going or who was crossing the street.

I stopped suddenly when I saw someone crossing the road in front of me. I looked at him more closely and saw that it was my cousin Matt. The last person alive in my family. I rolled down my window and yelled to him, "Do you need a ride somewhere stranger?" He looked at me and smiled. I waved at him to get in.

"So cuz where have you been these past few months?"

"I've been in the mountains mostly. What about you are you going to college soon?"

"Yeah I got a full ride to CU. And you I cannot believe that you are going to be a senior."

"Yeah one more year and I'm out of this place. So where were you going?"

"Well I was actually going to catch the bus to go and see you."

"Cool I just have to take some stuff to the house and then we can go hang in Ned. Is that okay with you?"

"Um yeah sure. So how's the new family?"

"The best I think it helped that I moved in with my friend."

"Can we go there for lunch?"

"Yeah by the time we get there it will be." The car ride was somewhat silent as we went up the canyon. I was lost in my thoughts and was trying to remember where I had seen that guy before. I looked at my arms where you could see the light pink lines across them. I looked back at the road and suddenly thought: Could I really be crazy or was I imagining that guy.
