We stared out the window at all the stops flying by. I didn't know what I was waiting for, I thought I would just know, but I didn't even know what I was looking for. "I don't even know where to stop."
"Where do you want to start your life over." Kozac's smile infected me and soon I was laughing.
"This is the least I've ever known about the possiblities, but the happiest... I've ever been." I smiled.
"It's freeing isn't it?" He smiled. I rested my head on his shoulder and drifted to sleep. I dreamed peaceful dreams for once, Kaylem when he smiled, and laughed, welcoming me home, to this place I had never seen. I awoke to see the bus pulling up to the place in my dream, I shot fully awake.
"Kozac this is it, this is it!" I cheered.
"It looks a bit like our home town, but more woodsy if that's possible." He laughed. "It is perfect." We grabbed our things and paid the driver, making our way through the small Harbor Town, looking for something to tell us where we were. My eyes landed on a sign.
"Welcome to Gig Harbor, Washington." I laughed, I never really pictured ending up here but this is where we were. We walked into a waterside dinner and went straight to the bar. "2 cokes please." I smiled placing money on the table.
"And two burgers." Kozac added. The guy nodded and an identical version of the worker came out.
"Woah there's two of you." I breathed.
"Identical twins." They laughed. "I'm Isaiah, and that's Scott." The one at the register smiled.
"Oh I have identical twin brothers." I laughed. "They're only toddlers though." I shrugged.
"Do you know where you could talk to someone about buying a house?" Kozac said, getting on topic.
"You'd talk to Kim. We can call her up for you?" Scott offered.
"That would be great." I smiled.
"So you two aren't just passing through?" Isaiah asked as Scott made the call. We shook our heads no. Soon we had new friends, full stomachs, and a meeting for a house. We were toured around the Harbor until we found the perfect house. It was two bedroom, about the size of my bedroom I left, a bit if a fixer upper, but good enough. We paid in full with a mix of our money and started unpacking. Kozac's job was now to find a job, and mine was too find a furniture store and our neighbors as we walked down the dirt road to see a house. We walked up and started talking to the girl, her name was Erica. After 2 hours of hanging out in her kitchen and me trying to get the idea in her head she finally got my hints.
"You know, I could dye your hair." She smiled. "Maybe I could give you a buzz cut Jake."
"That would be awesome." Kozac smiled. It was going to be hard to go from Kozac and Skylar to Jake and Rebecca but it had to be done. Kozac's hair was done first and quick and he went off to find work, leaving it to be my turn.
"We're going darker right?" Erica smiled. "My older sister Dylan works at the salon, so we could have her give you a complete new do." She tucked a strand of her shoulder length wavy beach blond hair behind her ears, I nodded and followed her down the hall. "DYLAN CAN YOU GIVE MY NEW FRIEND BECS A MAKE-OVER?" Less then a day and I have a nickname.
Her sister peaked her head out of the room and nodded the second she saw me, I closed my eyes the entire time, trying not to cry.
One of the things that made me me was my unique hair color and curls... But I wasn't supposed to be me right now, I was supposed to be Rebecca, and that was the hardest thing in the world right now.
"We should darken her eyebrows too, make it look more natural." Dylan suggested, so they did, and reshaped them. They covered my eyes and led me too the full length mirror in Dylan's very pink room. They stepped away and I opened my eyes.
I now had soft layered brown hair and eyebrows, it had done the opposite effect I was thinking. I finally looked like my family, but nothing like myself. I thanked them and continued walking. I pulled out my phone and clicked on Zayn's number, it only took seconds for him to answer.
"Finally." He breathed. "Don't worry Skylar, I'm alone, you can talk freely." His voice made a lump form in my throat.
"We found a place, it's perfect, and a house, and we're finding jobs..." I stared at the sky as a walked.
"Then what's wrong?" He asked.
"I'm not me." I breathed. "I know it's not the point, but I looked in the mirror and I'm a different person now, I'm a straight haired brunette named Rebecca."
"You can always come home." He mumbled.
"Luckily I'm not alone, Kozac came out to join me, but his names Jake now and he has a buzz cut instead of his beautiful locks." I laughed.
"So are you two... Like an item?" He asked quietly.
"God no!" I laughed.
"Oh, well were are you?" He asked.
"Gig Harbor, Washington State." I laughed. "So can you have them send the stuff soon." He breathed a yeah.
"Harper thinks your going to chicken out and come back." He mumbled. Those words suddenly gave me the strength to toughen up and stick it out.
"We'll I would, but I'm not me anymore am I?"
"You'll always be you Skylar.
No matter what they say or do,
who you love at the end of the day,
it's what makes you laugh and cry,
and no matter what,
You'll always be the same,
You can't lose yourself, because you are the only person who's there when you cry your self to sleep at night.
You are you."
