The whole next day was spent worrying and preparing for the dance that was going to take place that night.

Victoriawas still a little worked up over the fact that she liked someone and Stephan was mad that he couldn’t know who it was. She wanted to tell Stephan who she liked, but she didn’t know how he would react. “I’ll tell him tonight,” she said out loud to herself, “There’s nothing to lose.” She then spent the rest of the day fixing her hair, putting on make up, and re-trying on her dress.

Once again Stephan was worrying. How was he supposed to act in front of her? If this guy she liked went to our school then he would probably be at the dance. She did say she just wanted to go with him to make other guys jealous. This wasn’t even worth it, I’m just going to make a fool out of myself, and he knew it. He just knew it. What more could he do to impress her, he’s been trying for years to get her. Maybe I should just give up; he thought as he had before, maybe she wasn’t worth it anymore. He’d tell her tonight he decided, he had nothing to lose anymore, if he was going to lose her, he was going to lose her tonight so that all future heartache would be over, and he could finally get over this girl that he had been obsessed with for years.

At around seven o’ clock he decided that he would go see if she was ready. He went and knocked on her door.

“Victoria, are you ready to go?”

“Yeah, just one more minute!” One more minute. He checked once again that his long dark hair was neat, that his tie was straight, and that his tux looked right. WhileVictoriawas in her room she was doing just about the same thing, making sure her hair looked good, makeup was still there, and that her dress still looked good on her. Then she opened the door.

“Wow. I mean, wow. You look great.” He said, staring in astonishment. She had on a greenish-blue dress that was a little poofy at the bottom but looked a little tighter on the waist, a nice necklace with a silver chain and some sort of pendant hanging from it. Her hair was nice as well, it was done up in a bun, but it had one piece of hair that looked like it just wasn’t going to stay put, as she kept moving it, trying to make it stay behind her ear.

“Thanks, you look really nice too.” She too had to stare because this was the most attractive she had ever seen him looking. He had on a really nice old tux, probably one of his dad’s old ones, his shoes were nice and shiny, and his tie wasn’t crooked. His hair was also nice, it wasn’t often that he actually put an effort into taming that beast he called a head of hair, but today it was kind of slicked back, but not in a gross way were you can see the grease coming off of it, it was just…nice.

“So…are you ready to go now?”

“Yup, lets get to it.” She replied. They were both lost in their own thoughts again, making the short trip to the school very quiet, both oblivious of each other’s thoughts. She was thinking about how to tell him about who she liked, which shouldn’t be such a big deal, but to her it was. He was thinking about how he would finally tell her that he loved her, the most important issue on his mind, the most important thing that he had ever thought of in his life. He looked over to her, seeing her eyes shining, reflecting the stars, and realizing that yes, tonight was the time to do this, tonight everything would be made right.

As they approached the building he looked at her and her at him.

“Shall we?” he asked, holding out his hand, hoping she would take it, which she did.

“We shall.”

They walked into the school making their way into the ballroom, which was filled with a whole bunch of other couples, and no one knew what he was thinking, what she was thinking, of what would happen. They sat for a while, then Victoria left to go dance with some friends as Stephan sat there, trying to figure out what exactly what he would say. A few minutes later a slow dance song came on. He knew that this would be the right time. He went through the crowds looking for her, once he finally found her she was alone, apparently she had been looking for him too.

“Victoria, would you like to dance?”

“I-I’d love to.” That word again…He took her by the hand and led her out a little more on the dance-floor, and he put her arm around her, and she put her head on his shoulder and everything was right in his mind, everything was peaceful, everything was perfect.  The song didn’t seem to last long enough for him, but once it was over he knew what he was going to do.

“Girly, we need to talk.” Darn, darn, darn, darn. She thought, now was the wrong time, she was going to tell him who she liked, she was going to tell him that she loved him, and now he wanted to talk… this didn’t seem like it was going to go well.

They walked over to a table nearby and Stephan decided to talk. “Girly, I’ve been thinking, you know, about what you said yesterday. You do have a right to know who I like.” Oh no, she thought, I blew it. He doesn’t like me and he never will…

“Okay, well, who is the lucky girl?” She said, trying not to sound nervous at all.

“Well, she’s nice, and pretty, and has the most beautiful eyes you’ve ever seen.”

“Oh, she sounds nice, but you shouldn’t just like a girl for what she looks like.”

“No, no. That’s not all. She’s kind, and smart, and seems very loving.”

“She must be wonderful.”

“She is, you’d love her.”

“Well, who is she then?” He grabbed both her hands and tilted her head up a bit so that he could see into those eyes he loved so much.

“Girly, I love you.”
