Forbidden Love

It had all started four years ago when her father had died in a car crash. There was no immediate family in the area so she had to go live with her neighbors, the Robertson’s, until she turned eighteen and could live on her own. Luckily Mr. Robertson was kind enough to let her stay. She had arrived when she was eleven, she was now fifteen. Who is this girl you ask? Well this is Victoria Bettion. She was very pale, a little shorter than most people, long ginger hair, and bright green eyes that stood out more than anything else on her. Now that she was living with the Robertson’s she had to go to a private school that Mr. Robertson taught at and where his son, Stephan, went to school.
This was a small town where everyone knew everyone, and yet nobody talked to anyone else. The private school was one of the biggest buildings in the area. They had dorms inside where the students would live during the week and go home on the weekends. It seemed like a government run system, but it wasn’t. It was privately owned by one of the older women in the town and it had been in her family for generations, and the system had gotten slightly irregular from how it used to be, but the old woman had gone senile, and the school was going to her son soon, so hopefully then things would go back to normal, instead of it seeming like they were in the late 1800’s. The chances of that were probably very slim though.
The familyVictorialived in was odd too. Stephan’s mother had left years ago for no apparent reason, or not for a reason that Mr. Robertson wanted to talk about. Stephan always seemed unhappy.Victoriawas his only real friend, and he hers.
Now she was 15 and Stephan was 16. Stephan’s life had only gone downhill, he was always alone and sad. He had obtained a morbid obsession with cutting himself, but no one knew, not even Victoria or his father. The truth behind the smile he faked was that he had grown toVictoria; he believed that he was in love with her, although he knew that she didn’t feel the same way. The last time she had dated he had cut himself almost everyday, and once he was sick of it, once he saw them kissed…he had thought up a plan to get him alone, and beat him with all the might he had, but before he could she had broken up with him, and he could breathe and be somewhat happy again. Well not happy, but happier at least.
Today they were at school. All the past dates or whatever she had been lost in thoughts. She was more concerned about the annual dance that was going to be tomorrow , and how she didn’t have a date for it yet. She kept worrying about it, and she had talked to Stephan about it, and he had been trying to work up the guts since that moment to ask her himself, but whenever he tried he got too nervous, or he just got lost in her eyes that he loved so much. Today was going to be different. Today he was going to ask her. They were alone in the hallway, and now he had nothing to lose, so he went for it.
“Hey,Victoria, can I ask you something?”
“Sure Stephan, what is it?”
“Well, you know, how neither of us, how we don’t have dates for the dance yet?”
“Yeah.”
“Well, I was thinking, maybe, maybe we can go together?”
“Sure, that’ll be fun.”
“Really? Are you serious, you’ll go with me?”
“Yeah, course I will, it’ll be great to go with someone just as a friend instead of having all the pressure of needing to be prefect like you do on a date.”
“Oh, well I kind of meant—“
“And besides, have you seen the way Jack has been staring at me? I hope it drives him nuts to see me with you, haha.”
“Yeah, it’ll drive him nuts, I’m sure…” He said, looking down sadly, she didn’t understand, she never would, he thought. “Do you by any chance still like him?”
“I don’t know Stephan, I really don’t know.”
“How do you not know if you like someone?”
“Well, I might like him, you know, after things went bad when I was dating him, I don’t know if he’s worth trying for again.”
“Oh, well in that case, no, he’s not worth it. He lost you once; he shouldn’t be given a second chance.”
“I guess you have a point, but it’ll still be fun to tease him.” At this point Stephan was about to leave, there was no point if she didn’t understand. She saw him turning away and he grabbed the sleeve of his shirt so he would have to look back.
“You know, there is another reason why I don’t think I like him very much. I have my eyes set on someone else.”
“Really, who’s that?”
“I can’t tell you.”
“Why not? You’ve told me every other guy that you’ve liked, why is this one different?”
“Because, I think I might love this one.”
“Come on Girly, that’s ridiculous.”
“Why?”
“You can’t love someone who you aren’t dating.” Hypocrite, hypocrite, hypocrite, he thought.
“Sure you can, this guy…he’s different. There’s something special about him. Don’t worry Stephan; I’ll make sure to tell you if I end up dating him.”
“Okay, fine. I still think you should tell me now though.”
“Nah.”
“Please?”
“No…crap, look at the time! We’re going to be late if we don’t leave now. I’ll see you later, bye!”
“Bye.” He watched her walk off. She turned and waved to him before she turned the corner and left. Oh god, she likes someone else, he thought. She loves him she says… “I can’t do this again!” he yelled to himself, surprised that no one heard him he went back to his thoughts. She loves him…love…what did it mean? She wasn’t usually very lenient on the world, never told Jack she loved him, and now some random new guy, she loved… He didn’t know how to cope. He was losing her; losing her to a guy he didn’t know the name of even… He walked into the bathroom and pulled out part of a broken razor he always kept in his wallet, “this is for you, guy that’s taking her from me, this is because of you,” he said aloud before pushing the blade against his skin and letting the blood flow nicely into the sink. Once he was done and the pain had mostly gotten rid of his thoughts he wiped up the mess he had made, put the razor blade back into his wallet, and walked in late to class like nothing had happened.
