Chapter 6
Kiera rubbed the sweat off her forehead with the back of her hand. It was surprisingly hot for a Forks evening.
And the generator had decided it needed a paid vacation. Nothing in the house worked. Not even the sockets.
She had called the helpline as soon she had come back from the day care. Fifteen minutes ma’am. Don’t worry we’ll send someone right away.
Fifteen minutes her ass.
She hefted the heavy brown carton into her wobbly arms and shifted it slightly to get a better grip. On returning, she had decided to unpack the rest of the boxes and put them away before James decided he wanted to play ball with the bigger cartons.
Man, the carton was heavy.
She bet Alexander would have easily hauled the carton with one hand alone. All those muscles had looked strong enough to haul up not only the carton but her too. Her cheeks burned at the thought of him carrying her.
Stop thinking about a guy you’ve barely spoken to, you ho!
Had the temperature ratcheted up a bit after she thought of him or was that just her too-enthusiastic mind?
She cursed the electricity supply line and let the carton she was carrying thump to the ground. She took off her sweat shirt leaving her in a tank top and shorts. Breathing in a sigh of relief she let the thing drop on the couch. Before she could get back to the task of heaving the carton the bell rang.
The technician. Oh he was in so much trouble!
She swung open the door with every intention of reprimanding the man into tears, but the words died in her throat.
Her eyes bugged out of their sockets and she nearly slammed the door back on Alexander’s god-like face.
Alexander didn’t know what worse, Kiera’s incredulity at him being on her doorstep or her half state of undress.
The girl had a body that screamed seduction-in-progress.
They just kept staring at each other for a few seconds, and then he cleared his throat.
“You ringed a complaint with me-uh, I mean with the ESB?” His voice was rough even to his own ears.
Kiera wanted to melt into a puddle.
She wanted to bang her head on the door jamb.
She wanted to just stare at him.
“You’re here to fix it up? You work for them?”
“Yeah. Surprised huh?”
“Be careful, I might just think you’re stalking me. Come on in.”
Kiera opened the door wide to allow Alexander to move in without brushing against her. She didn’t think he’d appreciate her feeling him up.
Kiera Watson, stop thinking about feeling anyone or anything up!
She didn’t think her chiding herself was going to change the fact that she wanted to lean on the door with both her hands and drool all over the floor.
She looked down at her skimpily clad body and blushed again. Could this get anymore mortifying?
“Wait a second. I’ll just…” She didn’t complete the sentence but just pushed past him and snatched up her shirt from the couch. She put it on hastily, too embarrassed to even bother going inside to put it on. She had never been comfortable in shorts or anything even remotely revealing around the opposite sex and now she was, in front of the perfect specimen of the opposite gender.
