Chapter 11
Kiera Flipped through the classifieds, blowing out a frustrated breath.
Nothing. There was nothing in these pages that she could take up. Not even a simple temp job. She desperately needed the money right now.
Everything was clashing with her college timings. And then after college there was her 'home job' to take care of James. It's not that she didn't like taking care of him, no, on the contrary she loved it. But she was finding it increasingly difficult to manage everything on her own now.
Okay, sitting on her butt, ruffling through the papers was clearly going to do her no good. She'd already put James to bed after dinner. College had been hectic again but it was not so bad.
Kiera huffed loudly and threw her arms over the back of the sofa. Why did this have to be so difficult? Why did life have to be so difficult?
Sighing with resignation, she looked to the ceiling.
James was asleep, the house was quiet and there was no one waiting for her here at home.
Kiera bit her lip and looked up the stairs.
Making a split second decision Kiera got up, swung on her jeans, got the keys, grabbed her coat and headed to the door.
She snatched up the sound monitor to James' room on her way out.
The cool, fresh air outside made her feel a little less antsy. She looked up. No clouds for once. Clear skies. This couldn't get too bad.
Okay, she could do this. She was a Bad ass. A kook!
Yeah right. She was as Bad ass as Mr. Potatohead.
She spun around and headed back to the house.
At the last minute she turned back around. No, she wasn't going to chicken out now.
She turned away from the door again and headed to the car.
Shit. Would she regret leaving a sleeping James alone in the house? Well, she had the monitor so she'd know if he woke up. And she'd stay close by just in case.
She looked at the house and then at her car.
House.
Car.
House.
Car.
The to and fro routine lasted about five minutes before she gritted her teeth, called herself a coward in seven different languages and headed towards her Jeep.
To hell with her fears. She wasn't going to let that rabid, deranged animal win this time. She would defeat the darn animal this time.
Fear of the dark? Nah, Old news.
She put the gear into reverse and backed out of the drive way. She looked over at Germaine's house. All the lights were out. She looked at the clock on the dashboard.
