Chapter 1

There was so much much blood, the stench of it was making her feel dizzy and sick. But she held on.Feeling the cold surface of the broken glass piece in her palm and fingers did nothing to lessen the fear and disgust. There was just so much blood!Mary and Richards body was just a few feet away with the thing panting over their torn throats. She could hear James crying in the other room.Oh god,not little James! The fear for james life did what the stench of blood nd the makeshift weapon in her hand could not.It her the resolve she needed to move forward and drove home that it was do or die.The stench of blood was getting stronger, she could almost taste the salty coppery taste in the air.bile rse to her throat in sudden rush and made her want to wretch. She saw her parents lying on the floor in a pool of their own blood and knew that it was all upto her now.But what if she couldn't get to james in time?what if she had to see him die too.NO!no,she wouldn't let that happen.SHE felt the anger course through her veins like a potent drug.she crouched and silently moved forward. The creature's ear twitched making her pause.Careful.Too much blood.God,James was going to die! Before she could anticipate what was goingt o happen she saw the creature loping in James direction. She felt her heart stop beating. It had probably happened in less than a second but she saw it as though the whole scene was playing out in front of her in slow motion. The huge creature was loping towards James in big strides lead by his cries. This was it,James was going to die.She was going to see him die too.She was going to see that little life thrown away.Too much blood!James DEAD!!He was going to die in front of her eyes and she couldn't do a thing to stop it.

Kiera shot out of bed with a cry.She crouched low in a defensive manner and looked around frantically. She tried to make out her surroundings in the dark room.Squinting her eyes she realised the room was empty and that she was safe.Taking a deep breath she tried to slow her heavy breathing. She collapsed on the floor unable to hold her crouch. She felt as though she had run a marathon.Twice.

Those wretched dreams again! She had been having these nightmares ever since that night. Before she had been able to manage a decent sleep schedule but ever since she had moved into this new town sleeping had become an almost impossible feat for her.Every single night she woke up panting or worse crying. She had stopped crying a long time ago considering it a mere waste of time. But in her sleep her emotions betrayed her.

Walking barefoot out of the room she moved up the narrow corridoor to James's room. She opened the door softly and leaned in.He was sleeping peacefully in his bed all nice and tucked in.Keeping her footsteps silent she crossed the room to him.

He looked so peaceful in his sleep unlike her.She almost felt envious of him.Kissing him softly on his forehead she went out of the room.

She needed something to drink before she went back to bed.Having a low paid but steady job gave her the luxuries of only a small apartment.Working as an on and off accountant for a small firm hardly counted as good payment. And now even college was coming up.Atleast she had enough savings for that. She hadn't touched the money the Colesons had left her.It just felt wrong to use up that money. She had just used a meagre amount to get started off.

Letting the cold water slide down her throat she almost felt at peace.Almost.

She couldn't help the edgy bundle of nerves she had become.Looking out the window she wondered if things would ever finally settle down. She had a feeling it was just about to get worse. Her intution till now had always helped her till now but she wished it was wrong for once.Because the constant sense of foreboding she felt after moving to this town two weeks back was leaching up all her energy and mental peace.Or whatever was left of it.

Just as she was about to turn around and head back to her room she heard a distinct rustle by the edges of the forest behind her house. She did't like single appartments or places with a forest nearby for a very specific reason.Trouble always came finding her and such places and appartments always made trouble's way easier.

She narrowed her gaze and concentrated on the movements around the forest edges.Seeing no more disturbances she ruled it off as a wild animal. But she knew there were much wilder things out there. She knew she had to remain on her guard.Getting into bed she tried to sleep but that sense-that intution-that it was not yet over kept her up the whole night.
