four months later, dan's parents got a divorce.
being the six year old dan was, he had no idea what divorce meant. but when his father left the house with a bag and didn't come back the next day, or a week later, he understood that he probably wasn't ever going to see his dad again.

johathon caught the two's gaze and smiled, walking over to them.
"hey guys! what's up?"

he shrugged. "eh, same old same old. college is a bitch," his gaze turned to dan. "i don't believe we've met, yet. what's your name?"
dan looked up. "d-dan."
john nodded, looking dan up and down. "how old are you?"
"a-a little ol-older than r-reagan, s-sixteen" he mumbled.
john's eyes went wide. "really? you look eighteen at least,"
dan chuckled a bit. "y-yeah, i get t-that a l-lo-lot."
his eyebrows furrowed. "are you nervous or something, man?" he asked.
dan turned red, his gaze quickly returning to his feet. "e-excuse me,"
he turned and began for the stairs. as he left he heard reagan scoff, "it's called a stutter, dumbass". he smiled a bit at his best friend, thankful to have her.
he raced up the stairs, bursting into a random room and shutting the door, leaning against it. he closed his eyes and rested his head on the wood, letting out a heavy sigh.
