Ever since the lunch date under the oak tree, you could say Sehun and Baekhyun were best friends. They went everywhere together, did everything together, basically they were inseparable. Now that Baekhyun had declared him his best friend, Taeyong and Jaehyun stopped bullying him, and even some girls had started to like him.
It was a completely different reality than he was used too.
"Yah, Sehunnie-ah, are you listening to me?"
Sehun jumped,momentarily forgetting Baekhyunl was there and nodded his head like he had been listening.
"Pabo," he chuckeled, "You were totally zoned out for the last five minutes I've been talking to you." His friend elbowed him playfully, "What were you thinking about?"
You, Sehun wanted to say. Your smile, your laugh, the way you say my name.
Instead he sighed and patted the books sitting on the cafeteria table in front of him, "How much homework I have to get done."
Baekhyun ruffled the other boys hair and checked his phone. "Okay, well I've got to go to that appointment with my parents that I told you about, I should be back later today and we can walk to your house. I'm serious Oh Sehun, don't leave my sorry butt walking by myself."
Sehun laughed,nodded and helped Baekhyun zip up his backpack, "Okay, don't make me wait, we're both gonna suffer through calculus."
Baekhyun laughed and then he was gone.
~~~
Sehun waited all throughout school and on the corner where the usually meet for thirty minutes. Students passed him and teachers left the building. He pulled out his phone to check for a text and sighed when nothing alerted him.
5:45
Baekhyun you're still coming back today right?
6:00
I'm waiting still...Are you just running late?
6:15
Did I make you angry or something??
7:00
It's dark now, I'll just take you the calculus homework
Sehun shoved his phone into his front pocket and tried to think of all the reasons why Baekhyun could be mad at him. Nothing came to his head so he re- adjusted his backpack and jogged across the street, the sun setting on the horizon in front of him. Although he had never been, he knew the address to his best friend's house and he pulled out money to get on the city bus.
Baekhyun never talked about his home life, and there was a little sliver of excitement in Sehun's chest as he boarded the crowded vehicle. His and Baekhyun's lives were vastly different and Baekhyun had something that Sehun had alway craved in his house... just a little bit of order.
He got off the bus outside of a high iron gate. Behind it was a huge hotel looking house, with perfectly manicured lawns and fountains. He stood in awe, admiring it all until a voice blared from the speaker installed on the gate.
"Please state your name!" It snapped and Sehun jumped.
"U-uh, O-Oh S-Sehun. I came to bring Baekhyun his homework."
There were a few seconds of awkward silence and then the gates beeped and swung open, letting Sehun onto the estate.
A small, frail woman stood halfway between the house and the gate in a black dress. As Sehun passed her she smiled and hooked onto his arm, startling him.
"You must be Sehun! I'm Kim Lee Hwa, Baekhyun's caretaker."
Sehun smiled and let her lead him into the huge house.
She talked his ear off about how "Baekhyun rarely had friends over", and she was really excited to see "such a tall handsome boy" which made him blush. Somewhere in the beginning of the house he had stopped paying attnetion. Chandeliers were everywhere, long spiraling staircases around every corner and a piano in each room they passed. He was used to small apartments and cheap things, just walking on the floor made him nervous.
Lee Hwa led him upstairs and pulled open huge double doors that led to another part of the house.
"The master should be in his room, it's the first door on the right you can't miss it."
Sehun bowed and Lee Hwa smiled, shutting the doors.
Sehun traveled slowly down the long hallway admiring the paintings on the walls and the beautiful view of Seoul through the giant glass windows. Baekhyun was one lucky kid. Sehun paused...Did Lee Hwa say first door...or second door on the right?
He began to panic...He knew she said something about the first door so Sehun located the first one he saw and knocked. When no one answered he pulled it opened hesitantly. Instead of a bedroom like he was expecting, he stared at the marble countertops and silver sinks of a bathroom. A shower the size of a walk in closet lined the wall and Sehun admired it for a little longer before easing the door closed.
But something caught his eye, just before he fully shut it.
On the other side of the shower, bloodied pieces of paper were thrown and torn all over the floor. A feeling of dread grew more and more in his chest as he crossed to the sink and picked up a stained piece of AP English homework that had been assigned a couple of days ago. Blood was flecked on the edges of the sink and on the floor, around the countertop.
What had happened here?
He followed the spots of blood on the tile floor towards the shower and pulled open the door. It was too dark to see inside so he flicked on the built in shower light, blinking as his eyes adjusted.
His heart stopped. His eyes went wide. A slender figure was propped up against the wall of the shower, wearing a familiar Go Nam school uniform. The trickle of water running from the shower head above was stained red as it swirled down the drain.
The figure lifted his head and Sehun choked,
"Baekhyun?"
