Sehun watched the car speed away in disbelief.
Was Baekhyun pulling his leg? How could he be in danger? Chanyeol, who Baekhyun had been friendly with earlier, and the driver that had taken him and Sehun to his house, was driving the car. How could he possibly be in danger?
Still, an something important was poking at the back of his mind but he couldn't place why the information would be some important.
Parents, He repeated to himself, There was something off about his parents.
He knew Baekhyun's mom and dad were big company owners and that's why they had a lot of money, but he couldn't remember what kind of business it was. Tossing aside his resentment for Baekhyun, he decided to at least go check on him. Chanyeol was giving off weird vibes anyway.
The only place Sehun could think to go was to the mansion, so he made his way in that direction, jogging down the street.
~~~
Sehun watched from behind some bushes at the entrance to Baekhyun's house that gave him a perfect view of the front door. The black car pulled through the gates and next to yet another car. The door of the vehicle swung open suddenly and Chanyeol stepped out, straightening his jacket collar. He opened the door to let Baekhyun out and Sehun watched as his ex boyfriend stepped out. Even from a distance, Sehun could tell he was shaking, and his heart wrenched at the amount of visible nervousness emanating from the boy.
"Chanyeol..." Sehun could just make out Baekhyun's voice, "Please. Please, don't make me do this. They're not as merciful as you think, I--"
"Yah!" Chanyeol smoothed his hair back, obviously aggravated. "Listen. I don't have time for this. They're waiting inside."
Sehun tensed at Chanyeol's rude tone, and Baekhyun's face collapsed. Chanyeol snatched the other boys wrist and led him in, all but dragging him.
There was something going on here, something very serious. Sehun struggled with himself internally for a few seconds. Should he sneak in after them? Or just wait for them to come back out?
Suddenly another car pulled in through the gates and parked in the driveway. Sehun held his breath as several important looking men in suits,stepped out of the car, surveying the house. One of them held a huge suitcase in one hand, and used his other hand to attach an ear piece. They stepped inside the house, not even bothering to knock, and disappeared from Sehun's sight.
Without hesitation Sehun carefully slipped between the gates just before they closed, and ducked low, trying to stay out of view. He stepped through a garden and made his way up to a window that was opened just a crack.
Inside, Baekhyun was standing with his stiff looking parents, who were glaring at the men in suits. Baekhyun's fist were clenched, but they were shaking, and his eyes were traveling anywhere but at the people in front of him.
"I told you we haven't gotten our hands on the money yet," Baekhyun's mother spoke calmly, "The deadline--"
"The deadline is up today!" The man with the suitcase took a menacing step forward. "I can't afford to give you anymore time."
The atmosphere in the room was unbelievably tense, and Sehun's heart began to pick up speed.
"He's not even properly trained," Baekhyun's father's said, "He's useless."
It took Sehun a moment to realize they were referring to Bakehyun. His mouth fell open and the vein in Baekhyun's jaw twitched.
How could his own parents say that about him?
"We can train him." Suitcase man spoke gruffly, "You told us he'd work for us if you couldn't pay off the deadline. Maybe you shouldn't make promises you can't keep!"
What were they talking about? Why would Baekhyun's parents owe money if they were this wealthy?
Baekhyun's parents looked at each other, and seemed to be having a silent conversation. Chanyeol, who had been quietly watching in the corner, stepped forward and put a hand on suitcase man's shoulder. He whispered something Sehun couldn't make out, and then turned to Baekhyun.
Suitcase man slammed the suitcase down on the floor and yanked Baekhyun by the wrist.
"He became too involved in his school life Jun. Made friends with too many people." Baekhyun's mother sounded unimpressed as Jun began to inspect Baekhyun.
He poked at his chest, and examined his hands. He snatched Baekhyun's chin and tilted his head upwards, scrutinizing his face.
"He has potential," Jun shoved Baekhyun into his group of men, "We're taking him until you can pay off the money."
His parents didn't move, and Bakehyun's mother rolled her eyes. "If you want to do it this way...Fine. We'll get the money as soon as we can."
Baekhyun, jerked like he had been electrocuted and tried to push back towards his parents. The men grabbed his shoulders roughly, and restrained him.
"Eomma! Please!" His voice was desperate, "Please!"
His parents smiled slightly, the only hint of emotion Sehun had ever seen, "Maybe you should have worked harder." His father replied.
Baekhyun's shoulders drooped and he squeezed his eyes shut, biting his lip. Sehun's heart ached. Was this the reason why he couldn't tell his parents the truth about their relationship? Was he afraid of rejection from his parents? Or the men in the suits? Both?
Nontheless, Sehun couldn't just watch and do nothing. They were talking about Baekhyun like he was a piece of fish being auctioned off. Feeling suddenly confident, and without thinking, he hooked his fingers under the window and yanked it upwards, climbing into the room.
Everyone's eyes immediately locked on him and he realized he had probably made a mistake. He didn't know if any of them were armed, but without giving them a chance to prove him wrong, he rushed into the group, snagging Baekhyun.
The men were instantly on him, and Sehun used every move he could remember from his days in Taekwondo to fend them off. It wasn't enough though, and Sehun lost his grip on Baekhyun as they yanked the two boys apart.
Jun blew out an angry breathe of air and let out a strained laugh. "Aigo, you've just dug you're own grave punk!" he spat at Sehun.
"You bastards!" he yelled and Baekhyun tried to motion for him to shut up but he kept going. "You're selling him like he's merchandise, how da--"
A knee landed in his stomach and he doubled over, coughing.
"Sehun!" Baekhyun cried out, and lashed out with his foot, landing a solid kick to Jun's kneecap.
"Why you little," Jun smacked Baekhyun hard over the head with his fist. Baekhyun went limp between the men and Jun let out a deep aggravated sigh. Sehun tried to speak, but he was too winded and he fought for air.
"Take them both." Jun spoke abruptly, "Take them both and teach him," he pointed a crooked finger at Sehun, "A lesson back at head quarters."
