wishing

-wonwoo

As Mingyu and I was walking back, I get a phone call from Soonyoung. When I first answer, all I can hear is crying and frantic breathing. Then Soonyoung starts to speak.

"Wonwoo, you two need to come find us at the abandoned park. It's an emergency. It has to do with Chan."

Then he ends the call.

"Mingyu, I think something bad has happened."

--;--;--

We rush to the park without a second thought.

VanityView Park was established in 1978 by the state. It was beautiful and was a big part of the community back then. But now, it's hidden behind a forest of trees. It's been abandoned for a few years and we found it one day while we were bored. Minghao found the trail first, it barely visible. It started to be our place. It's where we go whenever we want to talk or when we need to get away for awhile. It's become a place where we can be in our own world.

Mingyu and I head down the familiar trail to the park. We hear the frantic voices of our friends as we draw nearer.

"You both finally made it." Junhui proclaims as we head over to them.

I look at everyone and notice that Chan is with Seungchoul by the swings.

I look at Jeonghan. "What happened to Chan? Is he okay?"

"I don't know what all exactly happened except that Chan's parents somehow figured out he was gay and they kicked him out, and by the looks of it, pretty violently."

As I listen to Jeonghan's words, my hands find Mingyu's and I squeeze them. This can't be easy to hear that one of his bestfriends is going through the same thing he did. I know what it did to Mingyu. I wake up to him screaming because of his nightmares. He never takes his shirt off around the others, his shame prominent every time he looks in the mirror. It broke him in ways that I could never imagine possible.

"I need to talk to him." Mingyu mumbles softly, his voice weak and full of guilt. I know why he feels guilty but the others don't and only look at him weirdly.

I push Mingyu towards Chan and signal to Seungchoul to come over here. After the confusion from them gets to be to much, I vaguely try to explain why I sent Mingyu to talk to Chan alone.

"He knows what Chan has been through. It's not my story to tell and I would never violate Mingyu's privacy like that so it's up to him to tell you when he's ready, but just know that he is what Chan needs right now. The only one that could understand his heart and feelings in this moment of despair." I say sadly, watching the love of my life comfort a heartbroken Chan. He's been through so much and for him to see it happen to one of his closest friends is painful for him. He will definitely blame himself for not stopping it, even though he couldn't have known. I'm sure we all blame ourselves just a little. We weren't able to protect the baby of the group, the one who is so pure and innocent, that has never done anything wrong. We all wish that it should've been us instead.

But wishing never works.
