Michael Jackson revolutionized the musical industry. He envisioned music videos as short films filled with special effects. His legacy is clear in today's industry.
Britney Spears was the first celebrity to be given 24 hour coverage in the media. She was an experiment on how much fame and exposure could to do a person.
Both Michael and Britney tried to work the media and benefit from it's coverage, but lost the war as they both became victims of slander and malicious press. Every move they made was photographed, magnified, commented, judged, posted on the media and taken out of context. In an attempt to appear more serious that only resulted in distorted facts, the media turned to psychologists to analyze, study and judge every move they made. In Michael's case, his insistence that his children wear masks in public was thought to be "restrictive". Britney's judgment was found faulty when she drove with her baby between her legs-a habit she picked up from her dad, who did that when she was a child living in small town Louisiana. The smallest gesture would be interpreted by the press and commented online, stripping them of any privacy. They have both written songs about the subject and identified themselves with the late Princess Diana, the ultimate papparazzi victim.
