Throughout his youth Michael was a devout Jehova's witness and refused to drink or smoke. He was even part of a campaign against drunk driving in the 80s. He later became addicted to sleeping pills and pain killers due to injuries and insomnia. He also occasionally drank wine, particularly when flying, which he feared.
Britney has been accused of being a total party girl and drugs consumer. Early on in her career she mantained she did not consume these substances, but her own mother tarnished this image in her memoir detailing her use of alcohol at age 12 and drugs at age 15. Her mood swings were controlled with Prozac and several antianxiety medications from the time she was 18 on. When her father organized her comeback, the tour was declared substance free. The dancers called the tour "The water tour" and were subject to random drug testing.
