My eyes snapped open to see darkness...

This is how my new life began. Me sitting in a upright position with my back against a cold metal wall surrounded by darkness and greeted by the sounds of metal against metal. The ground beneath me shuddered, causing my back to slam against the wall. I winced as pain flared up in my back.

With another rough jolt, the room jerked upward like an lift in an old, abandoned mine shaft. The harsh sounds of the chains and pulleys pulling me up was deaf sounding. The metal box swayed as I ascended up, making me feel slightly nauseous. I closed my eyes, hoping the feeling would go away.

Slowly the sounds faded away as they were replaced by laughter. Opening my eyes, I watched a young boy laughing as he ran around a small yard. Confusion swept over me as I examined my new surroundings. Where am I?

I looked towards the boy. Not knowing his name, I was about to call out until someone beat me to it.

" Thomas time to come in!" A woman called out as she walked outside, pulling her loose hair into a messy bun. The boy sighed and walked up to her. Thinking if I should ask where I was, I called out, " Excuse me but where am I?"

The woman didn't even look my way. I frowned. Didn't she hear me?

The little boy, who I assumed was Thomas, looked in my direction but more at the sky. " Can I stay outside little longer Mommy?" He asked sadly.

The woman frowned and shook her head. " I'm sorry Thomas. Remember it's dangerous to be outside for too long."

Dangerous? I looked up behind me and noticed the sun. It wasn't a natural color. It was darker and the sky wasn't even a blue looking color either. It had more of an orange tint. I frowned and notice I didn't feel heat but the same coldness as if I was still in the box. This isn't real...

Suddenly a small cry came from inside the house. The mother shook her head. " This is going to be a long day. Thomas could you go calm down your sister while I go prepare your lunc ." she asked.

The dark haired boy smiled. " I'll go calm Makena down."

Opening my eyes, I was once again back to reality. The harsh grinding sounds and the darkness.

" Makena..." The name slipped through my lips. " I remember now!" I smiled but all too soon the smile faded. That was basically all I could remember. I couldn't remember family, friends, or my life. I tried remembering, what I assumed was a memory, that I had a few minutes ago but now it was all blank. I couldn't even recall what happened in it or what it was even about except for a young boy saying my name.

My breathing became quicker as I pulled my knees to my chest. I tried my best to recall anything from my past but everything was blurry. I could remember facts, problems, even memories of eating foods, riding bikes, and more. General knowledge of the world and stuff but nothing of my past. Absolutely blank on all of it. Even my looks I was completely clueless on!

Now noticing that several small red lights now lit up the box a bit, I looked out in front of me noticing an outline of something. It still wasn't bright enough to see what it clearly was but just enough to get an outline. Curious of what it was I slowly crawled over to it. As I got closer, I finally could make out that it was a girl.

" Hello?" I asked. She didn't answer. I placed a hand on her shoulder and then asked, " Are you okay?" Still I wasn't answered. My eyes widened in panic. Fearing something was wrong, I rolled her over onto her back and grabbed her wrist and waited for a pulse. A low beating could be felt. I smiled, feeling somewhat relived that she wasn't dead and that I wasn't completely alone.
