Grown Girl, Forever Changed.

There once was a child,
A vision of purity,
Love filling her heart to the brim,
Unafraid and unashamed,
She let it overflow and touch the world,
Innocent and tireless and pure.

She was a girl with joy as her last thought each night,
Wondering at the beautiful wide world.

I remember a child,
And her world was lovely because she let it be.

She was innocence itself,
But the world isn't all that it should be.
She had to grow up and now there's a storm in her eyes,
A million tears have trailed down her cheeks,
Writing out her story in invisible scars.

Things have changed for this child,
Now dreams of beauty don't grace her mind,
And sleep is laborious and soaked in hurt.

Instead of visions of joy to rock her to sleep,
She often sees nights long past where pain was not typical,
She often sees lost memories and purity she will never get back.
This child, is no child anymore.

This child is grown.
And this grown girl is nothing like she used to be.

Love, her once most treasured gift,
Is now the scariest part of this grown girl,
Her most open love was what broke her the most,
And no heart is complete without its love.

This grown girl,
Still has love filling her heart to the brim,
But now she is afraid to let it overflow and touch the world,
Not so innocent and tireless and pure.
