"What are those?" he asked peering at my wrist. I looked away from him, then I glanced towards his wrist, beneath the bracelets, there was something there. "What are those?" I said giving him the same look. "Luke - you don't," I started. He cut me off. "Yes, I self harm." he said turning away. "And you?" "Y-yes." I barely managed to stutter out.
I stopped dead in my tracks. Luke soon followed my pursuit and stared at me. Before he could say anything I walked forward and hugged him. "I'm sorry for the things you had to go up against, but I'm here now, and you're not alone, I'll be here I promise." I whispered into his shoulder. "Thank you. I'm sorry for everything you had to face alone, and I won't ever leave you, I'm here for you." he said nuzzling into my neck.We just stood there, hugging, not caring that people were giving us looks. That didn't matter. We were here and that's all that mattered.
We finally pulled apart. We walked about another block and he spoke up. "Do you want something to eat? I'm starving." he said laughing. "Yes please!" I practically yelled.
"Well, erm, I don't have any American money, do you?" he questioned awkwardly. "I've lived here for 3 years, of course I do." I said laughing. "Hey, why did you leave Cheshire in the first place?" he suddenly asked. There's the question, the one I never wanted to hear again. I knew it would come up eventually.
"It's a long story, actually, I'll tell you over Taco Bell." I said pointing towards the building. He instantly ran forward to the door and opened it for me. "Thank you!" I said smiling. "No problem." he said following me in.
"I've never even been here, I have no idea what to get." he said scanning the menu boards. "Do you like Doritos?" I asked. "Yeah, but what does that have to do with anything?" he said confused. "And do you like tacos?" I asked ignoring his comment. "Of course I like tacos , who do you think I am." he said still looking confused. "Okay good. I got you bro." I said walking towards the counter. He followed and tailed behind me.
The cashier turned around and smiled at me. "Hey Emma!" she said smiling a mile wide. "Hi Karmyn." I said grinning. "You see, Luke here, has never been here." I said pointing to him with my thumb. She gasped. "H-Hi." he said blushing and waving.
"Okay, I've embarrassed you enough Lucas, well get 5 Dorito Tacos and 2 Baha Blast Freezes." I said simply. She tapped on the register, thing. "Okay, that'll be 12.72$." she said looking up from the register. I handed her a twenty dollar bill. "Alright here's your change, and I'll make sure you get your food first." she said ad winked before walking away.
We got our food and sat down. I instinctively devoured my tacos in about 5 minutes. Luke stared at me laughing uncontrollably. "What?" I said. "You ate 3 tacos before I could even eat 2, and looked hilarious while doing it." he said barely understandable through his laughter.
He bit into his taco and a look of pure enjoyment spread across his face. "This. Is. Amazing." he said finishing his first taco. "Why don't we have these places in Australia." he said starting on his last taco. I laughed and took a sip from my freeze.
I felt my phone buzz and I saw I had texts from 3 different numbers that I hadn't known. I opened the first one and it read,
Hey Emma, it's Michael. Louis gave us all your number.
The second one read,
Hii Emmer, it's Calum. Lou gave us your number.(:
The last one, I was assuming was from Luke read,
I'm across from you. Louis texted me your number. Hey lol.
I saved all of them as contacts and put my phone back in my pocket. I got up and threw out my trash and walked back to the table. I grabbed my freeze and poked Luke."Ready?" I asked. "Yep, leggo." he responded standing up.
"You never did tell me why you left Cheshire." he said looking at me. I could feel the tears brim my eyes as the memories flooded back. I wiped my eyes before he noticed anything.
It's time. Time to face the music.
