Chapter 25: A Helping Hand
"Maria sent you to spy on me? It seems everyone knows something about me that I don't know" I looked at this so called being of nothingness. It was odd that something this powerful was listening to a huamn. Its true that beings created or born from nothingness are in a sense dead and powerful necro-mancers can control them. Even the most powerful necro-mancers have trouble summoning one and keeping it under their control. Normally people avoid these beings and only summon them if they are to dangerous to be free. Through few in numbers, they have great power. Anyone who summons one runs the risk of having their soul slowly start corruting. I looked at this being, there was something about it that made me almost trust him. "What is your name?"
He looked at me and than bowed, "I have been called many things, but the one I like most is Shadow. That is what you may address me by."
"So you're here to help me." I started for the door, when I remembered that I can't even touch the knob. So I tried walking right through the wall, Shadow followed. "How are you going to help me?" I asked.
"My powers like yours have their limits. But I can help you find what you seek." I give him a look that said 'I don't want your help' none the less he started talking again. "My powers allow me to do many things. As a being of nothingness I live off any and all neglect emtions or thoughts that inudes dreams. Plus you may need help protecting yourself."
"Protecting myself from what?" I started to say when something attacked from the shadows. Shadow pushed me out of the way and focred the creature back. He looked at me, "This" he pointed to the shadows "is what you need protecting from. Those creatures are lesser being of nothingness. Imperfect creations or cheap visions of my kind. They prey and feed on lost souls, souls that don't know where to go. In the state your in, you just another meal to them. If even the smallest part of you touches them, you'll become one of them."
We counited the rest of the way to Kenji's room in silence. We had been attacked five more times on the way here. Once outside Kenji's room, Shadow started to speak. "I'll wait out here. Before you enter his dreams clear your mind and fousc only on what you wish to find. And remember to a dreamer everything that happens in their dreams is real to them. So don't be surpised if he starts talking about some werid dream he had. Also once you go in I won't be able to help you."
"Wait" I said, "You said you could help me find what I seek."
He smiled, "I can, but I'm not." He then pushed me into the room. I tried to walk back out, but something was blocking me. I heard Shadow speak one last time before I went into Kenji's dreams. "Remember what you want to find and something important to you in this world if you don't want to become lost in the dream realm." Closing my eyes I whisphed over and over, "I wish only to know the one important thing Kejin is hiding from me. Nothing more, nothing less." I felt my body being pulled into another realm.
When I opened my eyes again, I was in a memory. It was from the first time I meet Kejin. It was two days before my twelveth birthday when Kejin came to live with us.
I was standing near the door to my room and Kejin was standing beside Bakusui. "Mika this is my younger brother, Kenji. Starting today he'll be living with us." Bakusui paused waiting to here my response.
"Bakusui, why, why does he have to live here." Tears started running down my face. At that time I thought Bakusui was tired of dealing with me. That Kejin was going to replace me and take my home. Even though I was scared, I wouldn't let anyone see my weakness. Funny how out of everything I've seen, someone taking my home was the one thing that scared me most. "It's not fair, you said you wouldn't leave me. And now you've found someone to replace me." Young Mika was all tears as she ran into her room. Bakusui knocked on her door several time trying invain to get her to come out. The memory fast forward to my birthday. Young Mika had locked herself in her room all for two days, only coming out at night to eat. Tonight when she opened her door there was a present for her. It was from Kejin and there was a note with it. The note explained to young Mika that Bakusui is his only family and had to take him in. And that on one could replace her ever. The memory changed again this time it was when I told Kenji I was going to Crystal Academy.
"Mika, I don't understand." Kejin looked upset. He didn't understand my reasons for leaving.
"I've told you before. I only bring pain and sadness to those I care about. By leaving, you and Bakusui don't have to worry about me messing up your lifes. Plus, Crystal Academy can teach me things, like how is a half-vampire, half- witch to control their powers. I'm the first of my kind, sooner or later I was going to have to go to one of the academies." I tried to force a fake smile. (Smiling isn't something I like to do.) "Look, you've heard the rumors. This maybe my only chance to find the person who killed my parents. They also hold the key to my memories. Please Kejin, you have to understand."
"Then let me come with you. I maybe human, but I can still help." He rested his hand on my shoulder. "This isn't something you should or have to do alone."
I looked away. "No." I said nothing more as I grabbed him by the arm. Twisting it just enough, I pinned it behide his back. Then I hit a pressure point between his neck and shoulder blade. Kejin would sleep for a few hours, just long enough for me to leave.
So far all the memories I've seen have been important moments for both of us. I was starting to feel my spirit being putted back to my body. A sign that I should hurry up before the spell wore off. Taking a deep breath I said. "I wish only to know the one important thing Kejin is hiding from me. Nothing more, nothing less." Memeroies started changing, moving from ones I remember to things I hadn't been around to see. When everything stopped the memery infront of me was the one I've been looking for. It was of Kejin and Bakusui. They were sitting in Kejin's room, as Bakusui explained something. Something impantont from the look on Kejin's face. It was hard to hear them, Kejin stood up. "What do you mean your not my real brother?! So bascily what your saying is that my whole live has been a lie."
Bakusui seemed worried and stessed. "Yes and no, I am your brother but not by blood. You were adopted into the family, it was the only way to protect you. Just like Mika your uquice, the only one of your kind."
"How is being half-angle uquice. They maybe rare, but there are dozens of them." Kejin started walking back and fore.
Bakusui stood. "It's the other have that makes you uquice. Others wouldn't have suvived." Bakusui whisphed something into Kejin ear. Kejin looked shocked and so was I. Bakusui left Kejin to think about everything. This wasn't what I was looking for. I thought the most important thing Kejin was hiding from me was something that had to do with my family. Never in a million years would I have thought that me finding out what he really is was the most important thing that he wanted to hided from me. One good thing did come out of this. I finally know what Kejin really is.
