Chapter 37: Recovering
"Mika." A soft voice called my name. It was the only thing that kept me away from total darkness. Time meant nothing where I was. "Mika." The voice called out again, this time creathing light in this etenral darknesss. The voice countiely called my name, the more it called out the weaker it grew. At the same time, light slowly broke through the darkness. One final call was let out before the darkress was destroyed. Light blinded me for a moment. When my eyes opened, somemon was sitting next to me. She had mid-night black hair, purple-black eyes, and was smiling. Quickly I sat up, trying to get away from her. The girl grabbed my shoulders, forcing me to be still. "Mika, relax." Her voice was the same on th at had been calling me. Creepy, her voice is never this sweet. Bitter-sweet usually, but that's if she's planning something. Another look conformed that this girl is indeed Kurohime. With a sigh, I stopped struggleing, "Kurohime, what did you do?" She gave me a confused look. "Don't give me th at innocent lok. Your never this happy, so you must've done something. There's no other reason for you to be smiling."
She gave a small laugh, "I haven't done anything. You on the other hand are a different story." She explained the battle with the nothingnesss. Apartly, before I passed out, I'd asked the elemental spirits to not only inf the nothingness, but to also release the darkness within Kurohime. "Grant This is only remporay. By the next full moon, the darkness will come back. It's not something you can get red of. Mika, the darkness is apart of me. The only way to stop it, is for me to over come it." For the first time, Kurohime generally seemed sad. She didn't ask for this, but for whatever reason she understood this is the way things have to be. Before I could ask, there was a knock. Akio opened the door and surpise, Aya was with him. Like Kurohime, they were bandaged, bruised, and cut. All signs of our battle with the nothingness. They both came into the room, Akio leaned against the closed door, while Aya sat on the window seat. I didn't notice that we weren't at my old house anymore. "This is the nicest room I've seen." My thoughts were spoken aloud by mistake. Akio gave a smirk, Aya gave a annoyed looked before explaining what happened after the fight.
Akio awoke just as I cast the spell on the nothingness. Kurohime had three broken ribs, several bruises, a black eye, and broken arm (after taking the rapid beating from the nothingness). Yet she didn't pass out and was even able to move. Aya was half died, along with major injuries. Even in this state, Akio had to take blood from her. He had to in order to help Kurohime with the teleport spell. With the small amount of Kurohime's powers that was left. Akio used his blood for a blood sacfica, so that all four of us would be taken to a save place. The chosen place was Akio's manison in Japen. Once we were sfe, Kurohime went back to the World Beyond.
"Kurohime brought back a friend of yours." Aya said. "I believe her name is Sakura. A powerful witch at such a young age, she's the one that healed you."
"But that alone wasn't enough." A voice sopke, it came from behind the door. Akio moved to open ot, letting Rem and a random girl in. "Sakura healed your physical wounds. The spiritual ones were another story. Lucky for your, a fellow angel friend of mine is friends with a dark witch." He nodded toward the girl. "Her name's Bel, a dark witch who can use both dark and white magic. She worked on you for seven hours, while Sakura healed the vamp, demon, and your servant."
Of course Rem would show up. I had a feeling that he would be keeping an eye on me since we made theat deal. "Is there anything else I should know? Like the fact the Kejin is also here." Sitting up, I glanced around the room. "Or course I can sense when Kejin is near, we're bonded remember?" Kejin is my best friend who's like a brother and my familiar. Familiar is one trem for those who give blood to their vampire. Usually it takes several bitings before a bond is formed. With Kejin, it was done on the first bite. We can sense when the other is near, he can sense my emotions, and tell if I'm in danger.
The bond is a blessing and a curse, because Kejin is the last person I want to see. "Mika, you're a vampire who was seriouly injuried. Sakura may have healed you, but you still need blood." Akio's voice was firm. He's right about me needing blood. Still I ingored him and everyone else as I moved to get out of bed. Kurohime tired to push me back, but I grabbed her wrist. She kew what I was going to do to her if she dind't let go. Still she held on until Rem put a hadn on her shoulder. For some reason this got her to let go of me wrist.
"Would everyone but Rem and Kurohime leave." I glanced around the room. Akio grabbed a relacented Aya and dragged her away. Bel followed after Rem ndded. Once they left I turned to Rem. "I know you've got information, so spill."
Rem gave an impaint sigh. "Straight to the point is it? There's not much to tell, the nothingness that attacked you was sent from Black Magic. There isn't much I can tell you, if I do everything will be ruined." He walked toward the door, giving the smallest hint of a smile. "We'll keep our deal." With that he waved bye and left.
Are all members of the rarer races thst annoying, or is it just him? Sighing I got off the bed and walked toward the window. Kurohime went to the ginat walk-in closet. She came back a few seconds later with a black mini skirt, a navy sleeveless t-shirt, and black tennis shoes with minit-colored lnaces. "Your clothes were ruined during the battle. Sakura got these from your dorm (room)."
After changing, I turned my attention to Kurohime. "How long was I out?"
Kurohime blinked, "Two days. I don't want to sound like a nag, but you need blood. Either go to your friend Kenji or..." She knew that the other optino is for me to drink her blood. Even throught I'm in the house fo another vampire. Akio doesn't keep blood around, he only feeds from Aya. Other vamps who have one person they feed from, sometimes use blood tablets. There is only so much blood a vamp can take without killing their feeder. This is a problem, because most vamps can't fully control their bloodlust. Yet Akio, knowing this, on;y feeds off of Aya (and she doesn't mind).
Walking toward the door, I waved Kurohime off. "You are dismissed. But I am not sending you back to that prision. You have proven yourself, I still don't truset you, but you have proven that even when given some of your power back, you will not betray me. You will be allowmed to say as long as you behave, one step out of line..."
"I get it, you'll kill me. Stop singing the same tone." She gave me a gentle punch on the shoulder, then walked down the hall. The darkness really must've lefter Kurohime if she's being playful. Shaking my head at the thought, I walked the opistie dirction of Kurohime. The mansion was designed and decorate with a western style. The long hallway lead to the library, with nothing else to do I walked in. To my surpsie, the door lead to the upper lever banloy. The banoly circled around the library's upper level. You could see the entire bottom level and access it by a staircase near the door.
From the upper level's floor to the ceiling, books filled the shevles and walls. It was the same way with the lower lever's floor to the ceiling. After climbing the stairs to the lower lever, I looked on a few of the shelves. A grey book with golden writing on the cover caught my attetion. It was titled, "The History of the World Beyond." A classice text book used in all of the acadmeies. The one book that all of the races used.
Six years ago when Bakusui adopted me, I found an abridged version. This one must be the oringal full length copy. Opening to the index, there was a chapter about (how and) why the eight academies were founded. This is something I know all about, yet felt like I had to read this chapter. One chapter in this book alone can average over two hundred pages. Good thing it's magically enchanted. This book holds the general information about the World Beyond. And also basic information about the races, their kind of magic, different types of magic, each of the races own governments, and a lot more. Of course depending on ones race and magic, they'll go into more detail about this.
Anyway, with so much information, the books are spelled/enchanted so that the index list everything in the book. Just pick the chapter or subject desired (or wanted). And only those (related) pages appear. By now, I'd been seated at the table reading. I'd gotten half-way through the first sub-section, when I felt his presence. He was to close for me to make an escape. Instead, I stayed where I was. He entered the room, taking a moment to look around. When he saw me, he began to walk over.
Sighing and closing the book, I spoke. "It's very bright today. If Akio hadn't had the glass speacilly made, he'd be dust long ago. Vampires and demons aren't so different, just as humans and witches are cousin." I moved away from the table, book in hand. "Maybe some of the race did branch off from the rarer races. There are may races and half-races. Heck, there are even some beings that are able to do things they shouldn't, couldn't be able to do. Bel and I are just two examples, you're the other."
He stopped, judging whether or not to speak. So I counited, "A being above and unlike anything seen before in the World Beyond. More rare and powerful than even the rarer races, the true governing force to all races; both non-human and human alike; and to all the worlds. The one thing that even the rarer races and (and gods) themselves fear. The obverses are a rare race that no one knows about, the unlucky few who do are killed. Normally they are oringally born humans who gain these powers as they grow. Some have been mistaken for witches or something else. They keep out of the lives and fates of people until needed. They are the soul being who know the beginning, end, and all possible outcomes. As not to interfere with the lives of people, they live in separate dimensions and keep out of human and non-human affairs. It is their duty/job to keep the balance of the unitey, stop anyone who threatens the natural course of fate/destiny or tries to change it, and much more. They are not to be played with or to be taken lightly, they will kill first and ask questions later. Most couldn't care less about us, that is until we do something to catch their attention and doing that is a sign of certain death. So my question is why you, one of these almighty beings is here?"
