Chapter 33: Returning Memories

We countied to walk until we got to the second floor, I looked at Akio and Aya. "You're on your own now. I'm done babysitting you; I've got my own reasons for being here." I started to walk off. "Do whatever the hell you want. I don't care if Aya gets killed; just make sure to tape it. I want a copy." Kurohime gave a small laugh, she was amused. Akio and Aya talked among themselves as I walked toward my old room. Kurohime followed. My old room is at the end of this seemingly endless hallway. The house itself is run down and in ruins. Nothings changed, from the little I remember, which isn't much. Maybe coming back here wasn't a good idea, this is my first time coming back since my parents... "Mistress, why are you sad?" Kurohime's voice broke my train of thought. I ignored her as I opened the door to my old room. Taking a deep breath I entered, it was shocking nothing has changed. Unlike the rest of the house, which is falling apart, this one room remains untouched by time. Everything is perfect, no dust or anything. I almost fell over from the shock, Kurohime studied me.
"Kurohime, go check on the others. Make sure they don't touch, take, or destroy anything. There are secrets in this house, secrets that should never see the light of day. Don't kill them and don't let them know your there." She listened without question and left me alone. Yes, I was alone again. I sat on the bed, a headache pounding in my head. It was from to many memories trying to resurface at once. Everything was rushing in, it was all a messy blur. It was then that I blacked out.

"Mika run!!!" My mother's voice rung in my head, she sound scared and worried. Worried about protecting me and scared...what is she scared of. The sounds of a fight and the feelings of a scared child; this is what I heard and felt. So many things are happening at once. My eyes opened once the pain was gone. I found myself not sitting in my old room. But looking through the eyes of five year old me. Or I was until I found myself looking at everything from my own eyes. One minute I'm sitting in my old room, the next I'm looking through the eyes of a five year old, and finally I'm thrown into the corner. In my own body watching the horrors unfold. I watched the day my parents were killed, this is one memory I never wanted back. But now I am forced to watch and relive it all over again. There'd better be some point to this.
I couldn't see the face of the person who was fighting my mother, my father was nowhere around. The five year old me was standing behind her mother, to scared to move. Mother was putting up a good fight, she wasn't only using magic, but was fighting hand-to-hand as well. "I won't allow you to take her away. She is a child born of uquice and special blood. The only one of her kind, there may never be anyone like her again." My mother's voice was calm and firm, hiding any hint of fear. She stood tall and brave, acting as a shield. She was going to do what ever it took to protect me from this thing. "She is destined to go through many pains and hardships, but this is nothing compared to all the good she will do. I will never allow you or anyone else to use her." With that she cast a protection circle around young Mika.
Young Mika was trying to make sense of everything that was happening, all the time questions racing through her young mind. Why is this thing after me? Where is daddy? Now that I'm able to see how I once was, I question how I could've been this weak. Everyone says that I'm powerful now and could one day be even stronger. The five year old me, wasn't as brave as our mother. She did to want help, but at the same time wanted to run away. "Mommy, what's happening? What is that thing? Mommy!?" Young Mika asked in a small scared voice. Is this really how I was eleven years ago? A scare weak child?
"Shadow, Kurohime protect Mika no matter what." Mother commanded. Wait Shadow and Kurohime, here? Just then two figures appeared beside mother. One was Shadow and the other was Kurohime, both very powerful unnatural beings. Beings that should have never been born, but then again I'm also an unnatural being. Kurohime stayed by my mother while Shadow walked over to little Mika. He smiled at her and picked her up, engulfing them both in a veil of darkness. This is the power of a nothingness like Shadow, they can create a veil of darkness. This veil if touched can sometimes kill a person, but it can do other things to. Kurohime created a protection circle around my mother and herself. "Mistress, we are not going to let you and our master died. Not like this, please go with Shadow." Kurohime nodded toward the thing. "I'll hold him off as long as I can."
Mother touched Kurohime lightly on the shoulder and gave a small smile, "Kurohime, you are the protector of this family. You have given more then enough, because of us you have become what you are now." She sounded sad at this, like it was her fault that Kurohime was banished. "Besides you are bounded to this family to protect it no matter what. We both know that in order to do that, Mika must be protected. Leave with Shadow, he is the only one who will remember any of this. Kurohime, I release you from my service. You now servant young Mika, do as she commands just as you have done the same for me. But as your last act of service to me, I ask that you protect Mika and that you listen to her."
Kurohime gave a small nod to mother, then walked over to Shadow. Mother turned to little Mika, tears running down her face. She spoke, "Mika, you are destined to do and go through many things. As your mother is it my job to protect you, and I am going to do just that. My last gife to you is an ancient magical bracelet; it is our family's second strongest item. The first is this amulet; this two will one day be yours. Right now you are too young to have it, until you are old enough; it will be lost to all. But it will find its way back to you, for you are the only one who is able to use its powers. Please do not cry, your father and I love you very much. Which is why we must seal your powers, doing so will also erase all of your memories. As you grow and get older, the seal's powers will weaken. Letting you regain small pieces of your memories and powers. This is good-bye my sweet Mika."

I never got to see the rest of the memory, because something pulled me out of my dream-like state. What awoke me were the sounds of a battle. The moment I tried to stand, my legs gave and I fell to the floor. Something's wrong, my body gave out to easily. It could've been side effects from having a memory return, or someone trying to keep me put. The spell was faint, but I can still sense it, barely. A normal witch would never have been able to sense this spell, even a vampire would have a tough time. Being a witch, I'm aware of magic. My vampirc sense just make me more magical aware. Even so, breaking this spell is going to be hard. So instead, I used my fangs to bite into my left wrist, then I let the blood drop onto the floor. By placing my right hand overtop of the blood, I created a small summoning circle. This one is different, this one allows me to call upon Kurohime's sealed power, using it as my own.
I've never done this before, but if I'm right this will give me the power I need to break this spell. Usually, I would have no trouble breaking a basic spell like this. But there's something about it, it's twisted and dark. It is neither dark or black magic, but a mix. The spell has somehow weakened or canceled out my magic. Kurohime's will be something foreign, so in theory it should be enough to break the spell. But her powers are also foreign to me a well, meaning that doing this can kill me. Hahaha, oh well. I hate being useless and trapped like some animal. I've only been against one kind of magic that can trap me. It was the time I was kidnapped, but even that was weak.
Taking several deep breaths, I focused on the summoning. Linking my magic with Kurohime's, a small two way link would connect us. In a low voice I whisphered, "I, Mika, summon the powers of my death servant Kurohime."
