"Oh, mr. D!" I speak walking into the classroom. "Mr. D I'm sorry about yesterday. I've been thinking and... You're ... Not mr Dean..." I mumble sheepishly seeing someone who was definitely not Dean. Matthew. Whoever. Mr. Dean. "Mr. Dean isn't coming in today; I'm sorry. I can give him a note if you'd like." "N-no thank you. I-it's better in person."

"I can't believe him, Cody. He can't even come? We weren't supposed to be together in the first place!" "It had been a year, remember." "Don't defend him, Cody." "I'm not, I'm just saying if someone dumped me after a whole year I wouldn't want to see them for a bit either. I'd want time to clear my head." "Oh fine. You're right."

"Cody, can you help me?" "With what?" "I want to email him once more. I'm going to delete the account after, but I want to give him a proper farewell. You're good with words. Can you help me?" "Um that's not..." He runs the back of his neck shyly, "not really something you ask a boyfriend to do..." He smiled a little as he finished. "Oh, you're just saying that to call yourself my boyfriend." "No! Maybe..." "Definitely," I grin, just as happy as he hearing such. "Help me?" "Well, I don't know..." He smirks. "What's in it for me?" "Asking for bribes isn't something you do with your girlfriend!" "Whoa whoa whoa," someone speaks, startling me enough to yelp, "girlfriend?"

It was my other best friend, Jay. "Do you have a problem with whom I'm choosing to date?" "No, but you've never seemed to have any interest in him earlier." "Maybe I'm just good at hiding my crushes." He laughs. "You're joking, right? I know you're in love with the Dean." "N-no I'm not," I mumble awkwardly. "Well, you were then." "Oh, shut up."

"So, seriously, what's this about? Is this just a relationship of convenience? Are you just bringing Charra to your parents so you don't have to tell them you're gay or something?" "I'm not gay!" Cody shouts. "I really..." He leans close to Jay to whisper "I really do like her."

"Okay, you want to know the whole truth?" "Hell yes! You clearly don't like him, and even if he does, you don't seem like someone to pity date." "I do actually like him," I blush. Cody smiles widely and hugs my arm. "Okay, you have to swear not to tell anyone." "Ooh, it's you that did something bad? I always thought in the way of convenience dates and the like, he'd be the one to screw up." "Hey!" "Do you want me to tell you or not?" "Sorry, sorry." "I did something I regret. It's something quite big, and it's one of those things I'll never be able to forget. I wasn't aware it actually happened until a year or so later. It's something I want to tell my parents of, but because of one detail, I can't. Being with him can help me." "Could you be any less specific?" He chuckles. "I did something I shouldn't and don't want to say so?" "Oh, come on. You can't even tell me?" "No. No way. Never. Never in a million years will you come to learn this dark skeleton in my closet," I laugh.

"Come on. Spill," Jay spoke, poking my side repeatedly. He has always known and always taken advantage of how ticklish I am, and it's honestly getting so annoying! But I still like it... I swipe at his hands and speak through a giggle: "why do you care so much?" "You're my best friend and showed no interest in him before. Of course I'm interested." "You have to swear on your life to never tell a soul." "Cross my heart." "I... Messed around a little... With, um... With Matthew..." "Matthew? Who's Matthew?" I attempt to speak but he continues too quickly, with a certain gleam in his eye. "Is it that stud muffin footballer Matty James? Oh, lucky!" "NO! No, not him." "Aw, that sucks. I would have asked for his number," Jay laughed with a blush. "Oh, you. No. Someone else. Matthew... Dean," I spoke the surname with shame. "You slept with the Dean?!" "SHH! Keep it down! No one can know. Not even strangers online. They may know me; they may know him. Never speak or type a word of it." "I swear it."

"Okay, you have to help me draft this, okay? To make our separation official, to clear up confusion, so that I can go into 'us' without any regrets or bad feelings." "Okay. Let's do this." I log onto my yahoo email account. I was surprised to see a new email. "Huh? What's this?" "It looks like you may have a new email," Cody replies, sticking his tongue out at me. I gently tickle his side and open it.
My deepest apologies, Charlotte.
I was not aware you thought our relationship wasn't real. I was under the assumption your speak of dreams was of you enjoying yourself; knowing it couldn't last. If I had the slightest idea, I would have spoken to you immediately. I would certainly not have done a thing with you sexually. If you would like my opinion, your traumatic accident must be the cause. I recall other areas of your memory lost as well. I hope you have or will soon recall everything you've lost.
I hope you know I truly did love you.
Goodbye, Charlotte.
Filled with regret,
Matthew Dean
