Chapter 14

Jayden's point of view
After two weeks on tour my band and I return to school. I was really glad to be home and be able to see all of my other friends.

First thing Monday all the year 12's where brought into the assembly hall. We sat down in our normal seats, then the deputy principal walked onto the stage.

"So as you may know, the formal is coming up in a few weeks, it is our belief that you will all want to attend so we thought we should bring you all together to talk about some of the important points"
I had forgotten that formal was coming up, my mum has always said she wants me to go to formal to I guess I'm going to have to go.
"Mrs Davies is handing around an information booklet that has all this information on it and a permission slip which you have two weeks to return."

Knowing that all the information was going to be on the sheet, I decided to completely zone out unless I heard something extremely important.

Before I knew it, the assembly was over and we were headed back to class. We all had a study lesson so we went off to the different study rooms to work on various assignments.
On the way to the study room I heard Mavis and her friends talking about formal. Her friends Amber and Harper seemed to have a lot to say where Mavis didn't say much at all.

However, she did eventually speak up. "Can we stop talking about formal?" She mumbles.
"Why?" Her friends ask, obviously a little thrown off.
"I just don't want to hear about it. I'm probably not going to go."
Amber and Harper gasp. "What do you mean you aren't going to go?"
"I'm not going to have anyone to go with and I know this is really childish but I don't think I want to go on my own." Mavis says.
I can tell that she's trying not to get too upset about it, but I can see right through it. Knowing she's sad almost breaks my heart.

When we get to the study room I pull out piece of paper and start writing a note to Josh.

Hey, I wanted to ask you something, but not out loud...
I was considering asking Mavis to formal, should I? I realised I had feelings for her a while ago and I really want to go with her.

When I first hand Josh the note he seems a little confused. But once he reads it he understands.

'ASK HER' he writes in big letters.
'How?' I write below.
He thinks for a second before writing something down.
'Invite her to band practice this afternoon and ask her there, I was to going to invite Celeste and ask her.'
'Ok, thanks, I'll go ask her!' I write before scrunching the paper up.

I make my way over to where she's sitting.
"Hey." She smiles.
"Hey." I reply, I'm really nervous for some reason.
"How was the rest of the tour?" She asks, taking her earphones out to pay her full attention to me.
"It was really good, I'm really glad I got the opportunity to do something like that." I say, smiling.
"That good. You guys are so good, you are definitely going to play warped tour in a few years." She giggles.
I'm honestly so happy about why she's saying.
"So I was wondering if you wanted to come to band practise this afternoon?" I ask. "It'll be at Josh's but you can just walk with us and I'll ask my mum to drop you home?"
At first she seems a little bit shocked but then a soft smiles appears on her lips.
"I would love to." She says "I'll just text my mum." I let out a quick sigh of relief as she pulls out her phone and starts texting.
"Cool, well I should get back to my work." I say quickly and she nods. I walk away slightly awkwardly, but none the less, smiling like an idiot.

That afternoon we walk to Josh's house for band practice. We are there for about 5 minutes before there's a knock on the shed door, it must be Celeste. Josh opens the door.
A rather short brunette walks in, holding Josh's hand. "Hey guys, this is Celeste." Josh smiles. We all smile and wave before introducing ourselves.
Celeste looks like one of those stereotypical comic book nerds with slight sense of rebellion about her. I also notice she looks a bit like Emma Watson. I can tell just by the way shes standing there with one hand in her pocket and the other playing with the DC comic books keychain that is dangling from my bag that she probably isn't used to having this many people eager to meet her.
I can totally see what Josh sees in her though, she is exactly his type.

We practice for about an hour before we take a break. Josh pulled Celeste outside quietly, I imagine to ask her to the formal. They both come back in smiling so I imagine she said yes. I still haven't found the right time to ask Mavis yet but I know I will soon.
We practise for a bit longer until I can't seem to wait anymore.
"Mavis, can you come outside with me for a second?" I ask, signalling for her to follow me. She seems intrigued and follows me outside.

"So, I'm really nervous right now so please don't judge me. I was.. uh.. Wondering if you wanted to go the formal with me?" I stutter. She doesn't reply, instead she gets really worked up.

"Who made you ask me? Was it Amber? Harper?"

"What do you mean?" I ask, getting more and more confused. I thought she'd be happy.

"Why would you want to go with me, unless there was something in it for you?" She says loudly pacing around like mad. I'm almost a little scared but I manage to find my words.

"Mavis, no one asked me. I really like you and I just want to go to the formal with you and I know you want to go with me too." I say.
She doesn't reply, instead she continues to question this whole situation.

That's when I lean in and kiss her. She stops talking and kisses back. One we pull apart I smile at her and whisper, "All you have to do is say yes."
