The next few weeks were consumed by Harry's horrible practices, exams, and sneaking around to spend some time with Draco. Sometimes we would take late strolls around the lake, others we would end up snogging in the broom cupboard trying to avoid teachers.
The holiday break slowly creeped around. I was more than thrilled to be able to stay at Hogwarts this year. As much as I loved the Weasleys, I really wanted to stay back and see what a true Hogwarts holiday was all about.
Hermione said she was staying back too. Her parents were going to Paris to visit some family that Hermione wasn't to fond of.
Lavender also was hanging back this year. Said she wanted to try and get Ron an anniversary gift while he was away.
Harry still hadn't talk to me ever since the match, except to scream orders at me during practice. I told Hermione I was on the verge of hexing his tongue out of his mouth, but she said it's just because he's jealous of mine and Draco's... Whatever it is.
But after my friends departure, the castle felt empty. The hallways that were normally full of cheerful faces, now were open and drafty.
I made my way down to the Great Hall, surprised to see Hermione already at the table in her usual place. It had been a week since our friends had left, and I was getting more antsy for their return.
I take a seat beside Hermione, yawning slightly. "What's the time?" I ask, tapping my glass, watching the usual peach tea fill it up.
"Noon" Hermione says, clearly interested in her paper. "Any news from the others?" I ask, taking a piece of toast, taking a bite quickly.
Hermione simply shakes her head, giving me the que to hush. I get into my breakfast as Lavender comes into the hall, already dressed for the day.
Her pigtails are in long braids, and her coat is thick and pink. She sits beside me, causing Hermione to look up from her paper to Lavender.
"Waiting for an avalanche?" Hermione says, trying not to laugh. I raise my cup to my lips, taking a sip.
"No, it's colder than Snape's heart outside" Lavender says, shivering slightly.
Her comment was enough to send me and Hermione into hysterics. I even ended up sending tea out my nose.. Which only made them laugh harder.
"Not funny" I say, wiping my nose when a white snow owl makes it's way down to our table, landing infront of us.
"Hedwig!" Hermione says, stroking Hedwig's beak. Hedwig hoots, holding out her leg that has a rolled up piece of parchment attached to it.
I take it off carefully, handing her the rest of my toast. "Don't tell Harry I gave that to you" I tell her, causing her to hoot approvingly.
I unroll the letter, noticing Ron's horrible handwriting.
"Who's it from?" Lavender asks, trying to look over my shoulder at the letter.
My eyes scan over the letter, and I look to Hermione who's looking at me with a puzzled expression on her face.
"What is it?"
I look up to her, lowering the letter. "Its from Ron" I say, as Hermione takes the letter reading it for herself.
"What's it say?"
Hermione's brown eyes shot in my direction, as I lower my glass.
Without another word, Hermione quickly stands up, and I'm quick to follow.
"Guys!" Lavender shouts after us, but we walk down through the Great Hall and out the double doors.
I didn't have to ask where we were heading as we went around several corners and up the flights of stairs for it to sink in..
