Contemplating The Future

The outer edge of the forest was surrounded by a wide river filled with fish of all shapes and sizes. The water was very calm, almost trickling along at a slow pace. Birds whistled and tweeted from every direction and the occasional sound of a random animal echoed from within the forest or out in the fields. Yang and Kenzo sat by the riverside in a loving embrace, taking it all in.

"I still can't believe you were brave enough to take on Uncle Qrow..."

"Yeah...I didn't know he was your Uncle...Sorry..."

"So brave..."

Yang was sitting between Kenzo's legs with the back of her head resting on his chest and her arms outstretched and resting on her knees. Kenzo's arms were outstretched as well so that he could place his hands on Yang's hands and slowly stroke the skin of her calloused knuckles. She had just come back from a hard sparring match and was in dire need of a massage.

As the river continued to run, a beautiful Elk majestically strode from out of the forest and towards the river's edge to drink. As it leaned over to drink, the massive antlers on it's head blocked it from touching the water. The creature stood still, pondering how to solve the problem. After a moment's pause, it began to dig at the dirt by the river using it's antlers, creating a pool which was soon filled with water. Satisfied, the Elk lapped up the water with pride.

Watching the creature from afar, Kenzo was stunned by the beauty and intelligence of the Elk. But, after gazing at the creature for a while, Kenzo couldn't help but let his thoughts drag on the fact that the mighty Elk was all alone and most likely unhappy with it's state of solitude.

"Yang?" He asked.

Yang looked up at her lover, smiling sweetly.

"Yeah?"

Kenzo cleared his throat and swished the hair out of his eyes.

"I fear that one day, I might lose you. There are so many people that have lost the people they love and most of them are Hunters or Huntresses. If I'm going to be one myself, I'll run the risk of losing you..."

Yang shook her head and shuffled closer to him, bringing them almost cheek to cheek.

"No way...Not gonna happen..." She murmured.

Kenzo straightened his shoulders for a moment and let them drop, secretly frustrated with his lover.

"I mean, in my line of work, I will literally be facing danger as part of my job. Grimm, criminals, gangs, you name it. Of course, I'm not saying that I can't handle it, but there will come a time when I won't be able to handle it myself..."

"Well, you'll always have your teammates by your side." Yang reminded him.

"Yeah, but if I graduate, we will most likely split up. Indigo is too loyal to her family to leave them, Laura has a fierce passion for war that I'd rather not meddle with and Raphael has a dream of building a safe-haven for Faunus. As much as I'd love some company when I'm a Huntsman , I don't want to force my friends into it..."

Yang couldn't help but giggle, confusing Kenzo greatly.

"What's so funny?" He asked.

Turning her head, Yang planted a fresh kiss on Kenzo's cheek and rested her head on his shoulder.

"You're forgetting me... I wouldn't abandon you for one second!"

Beaming, Kenzo was about to return a kiss to Yang's cheek when he paused.

"But...Don't you have a dream to follow?"

Yang nodded.

"I'm a thrill-seeker! I want to go on crazy adventures and if there's one person I want to go adventuring with, it's you!"

Kenzo planted the kiss.

"Sweet..."

"WHAT THE HELL DO YOU MEAN I'M GOING ON A PILGRIMAGE!?"

Kenzo's furious aura burned around him like a wildfire, growing stronger every time he killed a Grimm. Ozpin had requested that Kenzo came to the training arena, interrupting his private time with Yang. He had asked Kenzo to display his skills whilst they conversed, but Ozpin had feared that Kenzo would become enraged at the news. As he had expected, Kenzo had.

"I understand that you may be a little upset-"

"A little upset!? A LITTLE UPSET!? I'M ABSOLUTELY LIVID!" Kenzo screamed as he stomped down hard on a Death Stalker's stinger.

The Scorpion-like monster hissed in pain, but was silenced when Kenzo plunged EMZ deep into it's skull. Turning to his next opponent, Kenzo gripped a Beowolf by the neck, struck it in the gut, pulled the strap on his right Aero-Gauntlet and shot a gaping hole in it's belly. The Beowolf fell to the ground, dead in an instant.

"I know and I'm very sorry. But you must understand that there is a reason behind this." Ozpin responded calmly.

Kenzo pointed EMZ towards a charging Ursa whilst looking at Ozpin. Pulling the trigger, a huge Blue blast of energy obliterated the Ursa whilst Kenzo shouted over the noise:

"There'd better be a damn good reason!"

Ozpin nodded and took a sip from his tea.

"The council and I have discussed this for days and we all believe that you are ready to become a Huntsman , which is why we want you to be sent off on a journey to see the world and protect the innocent."

"ARE YOU KIDDING- Wait...Are you serious?"

Kenzo's expression had gone from one of absolute rage to one that was confused and perplexed.

"But I'm still in my first year of Beacon! There's no way I'm ready for something like that!" He argued.

Ozpin shook his head and pointed to a Boarbatusk behind him, about to strike with it's gargantuan tusks. Without even looking at the beast, Kenzo raised his left fist and smacked the Boarbatusk in the face. The creature fell onto it's back and was about to get up when, still not looking at it, Kenzo impaled the swine with EMZ.

"You have shown honour, respect, strength, skill and intelligence like no other student. Even my older and more experienced students haven't been able to match your superiority. This is a clear sign that you are ready."

Kenzo couldn't help but beam with pride, but his smile faltered as his girlfriend's wish for the future crossed his mind.

"But...Yang..."

Suddenly, a deafening explosion boomed from across the camp. Ozpin quickly rose from his seat and watched in shock as smoke rose from the distance. To make matters worse, a voice came from the distance:

"Oh Skeleton-Boy! Where the Hell are you!?"

Ozpin stifled a gasp.

"Roman Torchwick..."

Kenzo looked at Ozpin and sighed.

"Oh great, the ginger..." He muttered sarcastically.
