Confessions To Fill The Gaps

As the dulcet tones of Careless Whisper died away from Kenzo's Radio, he and Yang held each other in a loving embrace, exhausted yet satisfied from their previous activities. Yang laid her head on Kenzo's chest and deeply exhaled, closing her eyes as she felt Kenzo's heartbeat bump against the side of her head. Kenzo wrapped an arm around Yang and awkwardly used his feet to try and shift the covers up a little higher. As they both lay there, Kenzo nearly dozed off because of how comfortable he was. But he had promised himself that he wouldn't; there were some confessions to be made.

"Hey...You awake?" He whispered.

He watched her head nod and felt her hair brush against his chest.

"There's something that I've been meaning to tell you...Uh...You see...Jeez, this is gonna be hard...Yang, I'm sorry to say that...Ozpin is making me-"

"Go on a pilgrimage." Yang finished for him.

Kenzo's heart froze and his eyes widened.

"How the Hell did you-" He began asking.

"Ozpin told me..."

Kenzo's mind went completely blank for a second. He had planned out what to say and had believed that Yang wouldn't have known about it beforehand, but this had screwed up his plans and now he was completely lost for words. What was he supposed to say to her?

"Oh...Right...I'm really sorry..."

There was a beat of silence. Kenzo loosened his hold around Yang and began to slide it back to his side, but he was taken by surprise when she quickly reached around and pulled it right back.

"Don't be."

He then felt her pull his hand close to her face. Kenzo's skin tingled as he felt Yang's soft lips caress his hand. Leaving his hand there, Kenzo relaxed his body as he felt her hot breath tickle the hairs on his fingers.

"I'm perfectly fine with you going." She continued. "Yeah, I'm really gonna miss you, but I suppose that it might be the best for you. I mean, you haven't really trained that much compared to everyone else at Beacon..."

As much as it hurt his pride, Kenzo had to admit that he wasn't the most experienced of Huntsmen. Even though defeating Torchwick was an impressive feat, there were plenty of students who could have just as easily taken him down.

"Yeah..." Kenzo agreed, "It's just that...Ozpin said that he and the council felt I was ready to become a Huntsman...But I don't get it. I mean, if I barely have any experience, why would he send me out all alone?"

There was another beat of silence as the two of them went to their own thoughts. Neither of them had any clue as to what Ozpin's plans were. After a moment of thoughts, Yang gave up:

"I've got no clue..."

Kenzo nodded, shrugging his shoulders.

"Beats me. I suppose I'll learn about it tomorrow. Ozpin's wants me up at four in the morning for a 'quick chat'..."

It was at that moment that the atmosphere suddenly changed. The air began to feel slightly colder, making Yang reach down and pull the covers up higher. As Kenzo moved his hand to wrap it around his lover once more, his felt a quick strain in his heart. It could have just some slight indigestion, but after all the pain that Lazarus had caused him when Kenzo was forced to transform, he knew that it would be foolish to pass the strain off as just a mere coincidence.

"Dammit..." Kenzo muttered.

He then quickly switched his focus to Yang and explained:

"Sorry...I think Lazarus was letting me know that he's still alive...He probably tuckered himself out when he discovered his Semblance..."

But in truth, Kenzo had no idea as to what Lazarus was trying to communicate. There was no surge of rage or pain, but instead it was a completely bland pulse. It was such a strange sensation to feel Lazarus try to communicate with him, but the moments in which Kenzo had no idea what Lazarus was saying were highly unnerving. Kenzo often hoped that Lazarus would one day learn to communicate through words instead of trying to poison him.

"Hey Kenzo? What's it like to be...you? Like, being a...You know..." Yang asked.

Laying his head on the pillow, Kenzo took a deep breath and did his best to explain:

"It's like...having a second conscience. With every thought that I take, another being is there to hear it. I never feel truly alone. He sees and hears everything I do and it's just impossible to escape him. But at the same time, I can hear everything he says and thinks and see everything that he does...It's like...It's like...It's like having to share your entire life with another soul that has the potential to kill you...At times it's horrible...But I'll get by..."

Yang was surprised by Kenzo's description. She knew very well that Kenzo was rather blunt with his speech, but his description was the most profound things she had heard him say. She honestly felt flattered that Kenzo decided to tell her how he felt about his condition, but then again, Kenzo always put her first when it came to almost everything.

"Are you okay?" She asked, worried that Kenzo was emotional after his confession.

There was no response. Yang was about to ask when she felt Kenzo's arms tighten slightly, pulling her in closer for a warm hug. She looked at his face and saw that his tired eyes were closed. Chuckling quietly, she kissed his cheek before laying her down on his chest.

"Night...I love you..."

As Yang closed her eyes and began drift away, she heard a faint mumbling voice:

"Love...You...Too..."

The stars above streaked and danced across the skies...
