*Niall's POV*

I try not to look over at Serena, instead I distract myself by joking around with Louis, which is working well. After the long boring talk about the safety precautions and other shit for riding the jet ski, I need a drink. But I can't if I want to take that thing out on the water. I watch as Liam prepares himself, putting on a life jacket and climbing onto the jet ski.

"Anyone want water?" I ask Zayn and Louis who are standing next to me, watching Liam as well and mumbling to each other.

"Yeah, get us both one." Zayn says and I nod then start walking across the boat.

I see Lauren and Harry heading up towards the captains quarters. Is Serena up there?

I glance over at where she was sitting before and see she isn't there, she must be with them.

I pick up three water bottles out of the cooler and cradle them in my arms.

Honestly could this day get any worse? I've been looking forward to this for weeks. Renting a boat and enjoying a day in the sun, but I haven't even spoken to Serena at all today. And it's cloudy.

I start walking towards Louis and Zayn who are cheering as Liam flies past. The Jet Ski flies by so loudly, I laugh when he passes. Once he's gone I hear a scream.

My head whips towards the direction of the scream. Serena?

Confirming my fears, I see a magazine floating in the water a couple feet from the boat.

My immediate thought is to drop the water bottles; which roll across the floor. I look at Zayn who shoots me a panicked look and I take off running.

My mind is blank as I run across the boat and place one foot on the railing, then use it to push myself off over the edge of the boat and dive into the water. Almost immediately when I hit the water I am numb. I swim to the surface, needing air but I get pulled around by the waves.

My mouth is moving and I'm screaming things, but I'm not fully there. My mind and thoughts are somewhere else; I am relying on instinct. I dive under water and open my eyes ignoring the cold and salt of the water. I can't see her anywhere, it's too cloudy outside and that's making the water dark.

I finally comprehend what is happening. I struggle to swim in the water, choking on the waves that keep hitting my face. I feel a splash as someone jumps in behind me to help, but I keep swimming farther from the boat.

Oh god. Oh god. I dive under again and keep looking, hoping she will splash or something.

"Don't go too far out Serena, you know you can't swim well."

I hear her mother's voice ring through my ears; I remember what she told us while we were visiting her home. She can't swim well. She's tiny. Only 4'11.

Immediately I become frantic.

"HELP ME!" I scream as loud as I can towards the boat but don't look back, I notice Paul towards my left swimming around so I go right.

I'm about to go under when I see a flash of pink. I immediately swim as fast as I can without a second thought as the waves and current pull me away from her, and before I know it, I have Serena in my arms.

"Baby?" I grab hold of her and try to tread water with both of us.

Oh my god.

"Serena wake up." I hear a voice and I barely register it as my own. It's shaky and sounds on the verge of hysteria.
