Chapter Forty

YAAAY UPDATE! sorry for the wait!  As usual I apologize in advance for any spelling or grammar issues. I don't have an editor and I'm too lazy to reread the update 5 times haha 

*Lauren's POV*

"I'll take her." I tell Lou, walking towards Lux and extending my hand to her.

"Lux come with me and we can walk outside for a bit." I smile at her and she walks over to me.

"Just don't let her wander near the road, or off the sidewalk." Lou tells me, looking up from her laptop and fixing her old woman glasses on her nose.

"Yeah of course." I tell her and reach down, putting both my hands underneath Lux's arms and putting her on my hip to carry her.

I walk over to the counter and grab a pair of sunglasses that I'm almost positive aren't mine and put them on.

A few of the buses stopped at a gas station off the highway, and I want to walk outside and get some fresh air. Lou wanted to continue working on her laptop so I offered to take Lux.

"Down!" Lux points to the ground and I ignore her.

"When we are outside." I take the steps down the bus and push open the door, stepping onto the pavement.

Immediately the heat hits me.

"Ahhh it feels good." I say and Lux nods her head enthusiastically.

I set her down on the pavement and grab her hand before she can take off running.

"Let's go inside." I start walking, pulling her along with me.

"Harry!" Lux says in her quiet little voice that I'm sure a stranger wouldn't be able to understand, my eyes immediately flash towards where she is pointing excitedly.

Oh fuck.

Just my luck that Harry would be coming off his bus at the same time as me. I watch as he steps out of his bus, sunglasses on his face with a green shirt and black jeans.

He's probably sweating in this heat. I know I am in my shorts.

"C'mon Lux you can see him later." I pull lightly at her hand so that we can hurry inside before he notices us.

"No!" Lux stomps her foot and pulls at my arm, hopping up and down, her pigtails bouncing.

"I'll buy you candy if you come inside." I tell her quickly. How pathetic am I to try and bribe my niece so I don't have to talk to him.

"Candy?" She stops jumping and looks up at me.

"Yes! Come now." I tell her nicely and smile.

"Harry!" She whines, tugging at my hand and starts walking towards him. Of course, he looks up and sees us.

Fuck.

Don't walk over here, don't walk over here...

Harry starts walking towards us, and I lean down to Lux's height.

"We are just going to say hi then go inside okay?" I tell her and she smacks my arm.

I hear Harry laugh as he approaches.

"Lux what have I said about beating on your auntie?" Harry says and spreads his arms, bending down slightly.

I release Lux's tugging hand and she takes off, running towards him and jumping in his arms.

"Hi little girl!" He stands up to his full height, and she wraps her arms around his neck.

I casually look down at my feet and stare at my sandals.
