Chapter Thirty One

*Lauren's POV*

"What ended up happening?" I ask Harry over the phone.

I'm standing in the waiting room at the hospital alone. Niall was with me but a nurse came and asked him to come see a little girl in the children's section; he couldn't say no. Preston came with us and went with Niall, so now it's just me in the waiting room along with a few other people.

"Paul talked to management. They advised us not to speak about it. That's basically it. Also we have to write six more songs for the album but that's beside the point." Harry mumbles the last part and I can tell he's preoccupied with something.

I walk over to a chair and sit down. They're uncomfortable. "Okay. And that's exciting or stressful. Depends on how you look at it I guess."

"Both. Want me to come to the hospital?"

"No."

"What?" He sounds confused.

"I think if you come it will cause too much of a scene, I don't think anyone wants that."

It's true, if Harry comes it will just be too much. There's already enough paparazzi outside and with Harry here; I can't even imagine.

I wait for him to respond but the other end is silence.

"Harry?" Maybe I lost him, the service isn't really good here.

"You don't want me to come?" His voice sounds flat, hurt.

Fuck.

"No no it's just we don't need you here, I'm okay without you and you'll cause too much attention." Fuck I don't know if that sounds any better.

"Okay." His voice is soft, and I can definitely hear I offended him.

"Harry I..."

"No it's fine I get it." He sounds clearly upset.

"I just mean..."

"I know what you mean. This isn't the first time someone hasn't wanted me with them. I'll see you later." He says.

"You know that's not what I meant. Don't twist my words. You just bring too much attention." I try to defend myself but I know the damage is done. I hurt his feelings.

"I got it the first two times you said it. Bye Lauren..."

"Wait!" I say quickly and hope he doesn't hang up.

There's silence, then I hear him say "What?" I quickly look around and make sure no one is paying attention to me before I speak.

"'Im sorry. I love you." I feel bad for hurting his feelings, but he should know that it's nothing personal.

Harry sighs and I hear a door shut and people talking in the background. "It's alright. I love you too."

"Okay goodbye."

"Bye Lauren."

I hang up the call and look around; deciding to go ask the nurse if I can go back in Serena's room yet. We've only been here for about 15 minutes, but Serena's been here longer.

She gives me the okay and tells me the room number, I walk to it and find the door open.

I timidly walk in, I'm not sure if her nurses will shoo me out. When I look around the small room I see she's alone, sitting up in her bed under the blankets and in a hospital gown. She smiles when I walk in.

"How are you?" I ask and walk directly over to her, I grab a chair and pull it up next to her bed.

"I'm okay. I just had some medicine but I should be able to leave in an hour or so." She smiles at me and I notice she looks a lot better.
