Steam wafted through the spotless kitchen like smoke around a volcano, circling towards the girl anxiously waiting at the table for the void in her stomach, reserved for only the best of pastries, to be filled. After what seemed like an eternity of waiting, the girl's mother flipped the pancakes, sending them soaring through the air, and landing perfectly on a light blue rimmed plate, that was taken out only on special occasions, though what that occasion was exactly, was yet to be announced. A snap of the mothers fingers was enough to show that the breakfast was done, causing the T.V. to turn on instantly to the news. "Wow" the girl whispered lightly to herself, a look of surprise dawning on her face. With a smile the girl turned to her mother. "This T.V we got from grunkle Ford is great! I can't believe that you can just snap to turn it on!" At this, her mother smiled and nodded once before digging into her plate of pancakes. The girl followed suit, getting a little bit of syrup on her face as she added it to the mountain of pancakes, in the shape of a llama.

"Um, honey?" The girl's mother said, which she instantly took as a red flag. You see, it wasn't on purpose, but whenever her mother was anxious or had bad news, she always called her honey, instead of sweetie. Like that time at her third birthday party when the fairy princess couldn't show up, no matter how much money she offered the rude little gnome of a princess. Later that day, her mother had approached her and broken the bad news with a lot of honey-ing. A few years after that tragic day she had won a pony at the carnival. This time her mom had told her, to her utter disappointment, that they would have to send the pony, she had later dubbed sparkles, to a stable. And the first word she used to tell her? That's right, it was honey. And hearing her say honey now, she didnt really have high expectations for what news her mother was going to tell her now.

"What is it mom?" The girl asked, faking a look of curiosity, though truthfully, she wanted nothing to do with the news.

"Well, I would like for you to get to know your uncle a little more." The mother started.

"Grunkle but yes." The girl interupted.

The mother sighed, "Fine then, your Grunkle, a little more." the girl nodded as the mother sighed. "Well, I'm sending you to live with him over the summer." At this the girl simply blinked and stared at her mother. Now, her mother didn't exactly have a high opinion of her Grunkle, so this was most definitely surprising.

"Um, mom?" The girl started as her mother gave her a curious look."Are you high or something?" At this her mother laughed and looked relieved, brushing her long blonde hair, much like hers, behind her ear.

"Not quite," her mother started, a hint of a smile still on her lips,"but I realized that you don't really know him all that much, and I think that it would be nice to, you know, get to know him better." After a moment of processing what her obviously crazy mother was saying, she nodded and silently finished her pancakes, slicing her beautiful syrup llama into a blob of sticky goo. With a push on the table, and the whoosh of a chair, the girl was up and taking her now empty plate to the sink. With a clunk, the girl watched her plate fall into the sink and turned to leave.

"You love your great uncle, why are you pouting?" Her mom asked, legitimately concerned by her daughters attitude. Without a glance the girl started walking towards the doorway which would mean he freedom, where she could pretend that she wasn't going to be shipped away from her best friend for three months.

"Pacifica." Her mother said, tears welling in her eyes as she quickly got up from her chair, causing the girls head to quickly spiral towards her.

"I love you." Her mother said with a smile, tears neatly falling down her face, and with the speed seemingly impossible for a woman of her age, ran and embraced her daughter. At this the girl closed her eyes and smiled, sinking into her mothers embrace.

"I love you too"
