"Dipper?" Mabel called into the dark hallways. Once again, she had gotten lost in her own manor. The manor she lived in was big and dark, a good simile being a cave. There was no warmth seeing as her father always kept the curtains closed tightly over the windows, and the only sliver of heat came from the fireplace in her father's giant suite. With a sigh, Mabel chose a hallway and started walking, her heels clicking on the floor every step. As time went on, Mabel wondered if the hallway would ever end seeing as most of the hallways in the manor were for show, and had no actual purpose, except the ones leading to her and Dipper's rooms.

As she walked, Mabel swayed her hips, practicing for when she would be on stage. She didn't want to appear like she was trying hard, but she did want to be seductive, because that was her job, to smile and look pretty. Dipper had it easy. He didn't have to worry about his looks, he was just always fabulous, at least, according to father. He didn't understand the hardships of long hair or trying to run in heels, though she could never point these things out for fear of getting a beating. She still had the scars on her back from the last one, though she hadn't told Dipper about it. He might be a big pain with too much perfection, and too many brains to count, but he did care about her, to the point of which he would drake a beating for her. She wasn't going to risk him getting hurt, that would just be too much work, plus, she could fend for herself.

"Oof!" Mabel muttered as she tripped over something. Looking back, Mabel saw that it was a book with a six fingered hand and the number two on it. With a curious look, Mabel picked it up and flipped through the pages. One glance at it and she could tell that it was her brother's. He was always getting into these kind of things, monsters and magic. Couldn't he live in the real world for five minutes? With an eye roll, Mabel closed the book and tucked it under her arm, intending to put it on her bookshelf away from her needy brother, though she couldn't really blame him for believing in this stuff. These types of things were his only escape, the only way he could get away from the cruelty of this world. Mable continued walking, now at a faster pace them before. Something wasn't feeling right. This part of the manor was colder then the rest, and much more bland. The carpet had stopped and the occasional vase on a table was nonexistent. After what seemed like decades of walking, Mable finally reached a corner of which she cautiously peaked around, surpried to find her brother and father deep in conversation. Her brother, with a horrified look on his face was listeneing intently to what her father was saying.

After a minute of watching their conversation Mabel decided she wanted to get a closer look, so she took of her heels off to keep their sound from giving her away and snuck behind a tall end table with a ginormous vase of tiger lilies. Silly Dipper, he knew these were her favorites. With her eyes closed in concentration, Mabel listened to their conversation.

"Father you can't!" Dipper whispered harshly to their father. Mabel watched her father's face get redder as his hand twitched, no doubt wanting to smack him, but he held firm to his temptations. He obviously wanted something from Dipper, or he wouldn't be refraining from showing him who is the boss of the mansion.

"Just get the jewels, then we'll talk." Her father said, face still red from Dippers earlier comment. "And until then." Her father started, turning to go down the opposite end of the hallway. "Don't mention any of this to your sister." He finished, his cape sliding against the cold marble floor. Once their father rounded the corner, her brothers poised form dropped, revealing a sad, weary teenager who had too much to deal with. Mabel watched as her brother slid down the wall into a sitting position, put his head in his hands, and cried. Mabel had never seen her brother cry before. She suspected that he had some sort of trick to keep the tears in but now his guard was down, and he was sobbing. Hard. Mabel didn't know what to do. She wanted to comfort her brother, who had risked so much for her sake, who had been there for her through thick and thin, but she didn't know how to without revealing that she had heard a conversation that she was not supposed to hear.
