I was at his parent's convenience store every morning, buying those same croissants that my mother loved so much, receiving them from him over the small counter. Sometimes, when our eyes met for longer than they should have, I realized that he was different.
I noticed it especially after the day of the announcement; the unveiling of the soon-to-be wiped out district. The day was always different, people never knew when they would get to know if they could live or if they had to die soon.
I had seen the news in a electronics shop, on a tv that was in the display window on which his angelic face mirrored as he stood behind me.
He was indeed so different.
