For a split second all I could see was a bright white light coming towards me, like a light at the end of a narrow tunnel. I felt suffocated for those seconds in that I tried to look around, only too see black walls absorbing my thoughts while I was already being engulfed in solitude. I didn't feel any touch, comfort and security around me; all of those facts made me think that it was over.
We were caught, I thought, we were caught and would soon be dead.
It wasn't until I heard the faint sound of children's laughter and a deeper voice from the end of the tunnel, their mumbles slowly crystallizing into clear voices. I saw a rainbow above a beautiful green landscape, a few smaller figures standing around the one my eyes longed to see all along.
"Mommy, come out!"
