‘Hey , I’ll see you later okay?’ I say to Niall as I start to walk towards Stephanie. ‘Stephanie, what’s going on?’ I ask her as calm as I can. She looks up at me as if she saw a ghost.

‘What.. how.. Why are you here? I thought..’ she starts but she is clearly caught off guard. ‘You thought what?’ She stays silent for a moment but speaks again.

‘Weren’t you with Daniel yesterday?’ ‘No, I said I wouldn’t go. I don’t want to do that stuff anymore. It’s just trouble.’ I explain. ‘So you just left him hanging?’ She says in tears.

The rage inside me is growing. I left him hanging? How could she say that when Daniel was the one who left me hanging. But then again, he probably wouldn’t have told his little sister.

‘I didn’t leave him hanging, I told him I wouldn’t go. You can’t blame me for what happened.’ She sighs, knowing that I’m right. ‘I’m sorry, I don’t mean to blame you, I’m just really upset.’

‘But what happened?’ I ask. ‘I don’t know the whole story, I just overheard him talking about a job.’ A job? I start to think if I could remember anything. Daniel did lots of things, bad things in which I participated.

He broke into malls, offices and so on. Like a few days ago we trashed the school and got caught. ‘I don’t know what he had done but he got arrested. He has to stay there and I don’t know what to do.’

Arrested? I guess Daniel didn’t talk himself out of it this time. But wait, why didn’t his father get him out already? And Stephanie is all upset ‘What about your dad? Can’t he help him again?’

‘No he’s on a business trip. I’m all alone since my mother is away with her work too and I don’t want to bother her. I don’t know when he will get out.’ She starts crying again.

I try to calm her but no success. ‘You can stay with me if you want, I have a sister of your age and you could hang out with her or something like that..’ She nods and thanks me.

I feel sorry for her and I feel like I owe it to her. I don’t actually but still she has nothing to do with the whole situation and I can’t leave her there all alone in that big house.

‘That’s not all..’ she adds. I look at her in confusion. That’s not all?
