ϟ ~ ϟ Chapter 3 ϟ ~ ϟ

Walking cautiously towards the school, I prayed a thousand times that they won’t see me. Not that that’s going to happen but it’s worth trying. My parents saw the bruises on my face and a million questions followed.

‘Where did you get it?’

‘Who did this to you?’

‘Did you fall?’

‘Does it hurt?’

‘When did this happen?’

And many more. I just told them I was hit by many stuff at the store. And of course they believed me because I’m so clumsy. In fact I’m not clumsy. I’m exactly the opposite. But I made that up in case they notice the other bruises on my body. Clumsy is a good reason. Or so I think it is.

I took deep breaths as I came closer and closer at the familiar building. Just let this one day go by without any drama involved.

Please God.

“Well, good morning there.” Ricky’s voice filled my ears and I turned to my right and saw all 3 boys now focusing on me.

Chase.

Ricky.

Patrick.

All of them had muscles and they weren’t afraid to show them. Well, at least to girls like me I suppose. But I’m pretty sure that they must have been in many fights. No doubt for that.

Once again no words came out of my mouth. I just kept staring at them waiting for their leader to make a move. But he never did. That’s when my gaze averted to him. He was frowning and probably was into deep concentration because when Ricky spoke, he nearly jumped in shock.

“Dude, what you waiting for?” he asked and looked between Chase and I. That was actually the same question I wanted to ask.

What was he waiting for?

“Why does she have bruises on her face, Rick?” Chase asked the now confounded boy calmly.

“What do you mean?” Ricky managed to ask.

“I mean what I ask, Rick. What don’t you get?” Chase’s voice was getting angrier by the second. I believe I was as confused as the other two standing by his side.

“Umm…” was all Ricky could answer.

“Did you do that to her yesterday?”

“Yes. What’s the problem?”

“What’s the problem? What’s the problem?! Are you on drugs?! We weren’t supposed to hit her face.” Chase now was fuming and Ricky only scratched the back of his head as a response.

“Sorry bro. It’s just that… she got in front of that little boy and I was so mad th-”

“Wait what?” Chase cut him off glancing at me. “Little boy?” Ricky only nodded. “Fuck, Rick. Are you fucking stupid?! You beat her up in front of a child?! What kind of stupid brain do you carry with you, damn it? Do you ever think?!” he was now throwing questions that I don’t think he needed answers to. “What if they God damn kid speaks? Hmm? What then?” he yelled catching some students’ attention but they all got back to their businesses after he gave each of them a glare.

“I… Sorry dude… I wasn’t thinking.” Ricky bowed his head and shifted from one foot to the other.

DRIINNGGGG

The school bell rang indicating that first class would start in 5 minutes.

“Let’s just go.” Chase said and after giving me a look that I didn’t get, he started walking away, his two followers closely behind.

What just happened?

Did I not get kicked or punched?

Is this a miracle day?

Was my prayer heard?

I walked into school without further questioning. I was just going to appreciate the fact that I didn’t get beat up.

For now.

“The fuck is your problem, bitch?” Kaila the head cheerleader shoved me on the bathroom wall. I just wanted to pee. That’s all I wanted. “You freaking emo monster.” She said and slapped me hard on the cheek. My hand found its way to the now burning spot rubbing it softly. I suppressed all the tears that were threating to spill and just put on a poker face. “You think you’re so famous, now that the school knows you, eh?” she paused and smirked at the rest of the cheerleaders behind her. “Ohh look at me, I’m the attention whore everyone. C’mon fuck me.” She mimicked in a high pitched voice making them all laugh. “Tsk, tsk. Pathetic.” Was the last word she said before storming out of the bathroom with the girls following her like lost puppies.

When the door finally closed I let everything out. All the tears that I held for the past few hours. I slipped down the wall and sat on my butt bringing my knees on my chest and burying my face into them.

This is so damn hard.

Not caring, is so damn hard.

Not letting them get under your skin is so damn hard.

Carrying on with my life is so damn hard.

I actually wish I could, for once, have magical powers. I somehow wished that I was in a different country, in a different school, with different students owning different personalities from the ones here.

Is it too much to ask?

Suddenly the bathroom door opened and I immediately looked up to see Chase barging in and staring down at me. I looked down once again wiping off my tears pretending I was making my hair and slowly got up. I waited and waited for any kind of hitting gesture but again nothing happened. I averted my gaze into his eyes and was shocked to find no anger in them. He sighed and started looking everywhere but me.

“Okay. This is really hard and I’m just letting you know that I will still hate you after this and I will probably still beat you. But for now, I’m sorry for Ricky. Was that little boy family?” I was shocked at his words that my mouth dropped open and I could only nod at him. His face suddenly had a pained expression on. “Was it your brother?” he asked cautiously. I nodded once again and his jaw clenched. “Fuck.” He said and punched the wall afterwards wincing in pain. I gasped at what he had just done and quickly grabbed his hand putting it under the sink and turning on the water. I don’t know what got into me but even if it was a person that held a gun pointed at me I would still help them clean up a wound, which by the way looked really bad.

Chase was dumbfounded. So dumbfounded he couldn’t even pull his hand away. I did as fast as I could and got my gymnastics T-shirt out of my bag, tearing it into pieces and taking the better one. I wrapped it around his hand all this time concentrated on it and not Chase’s face, which would be bad to do because he was looking at me so intently, I swear he was burning holes in my head. After I was done I let go of his hand and watched him grabbing it with his other one.

I took one last glance at him and started walking towards the door. Before leaving I turned around and did something I never would have expected I’d do.

“Thank you.” I said softly meaning it, even if he would beat the crap outta me tomorrow.

The look on his face didn’t give me any help. I could only make out shock in it. The other emotions he felt were unreadable. I sighed and stepped out of that room walking fast towards my last class.
