Chapter 11: Media

Maybe it was a bad thing, maybe it was a good thing. I didn’t know what to call it. This relationship will go somewhere, even if I’m afraid of appearing in a magazine. You just never know what’s going to happen.

I hadn’t seen anything or heard anything on TV. Our date was nearly two days ago now. I was happy to have no worries about those camera guys at the end of the driveway. But, who knows if anything will be on today about us. I really didn’t need this. As it was, I needed to figure out how I was going to tell Jeremy exactly what I was before I moved here. Sometimes the thought of telling him scared me. Like he might break-up with me if I told him. Some of the stuff that happened is pretty hard to take in. I was also worried about if I told him, the media could find out somehow and then they try to do something with me about it.

I wanted to push all these thought away, but I couldn’t. That’s why I found myself watching E! News. I didn’t want to watch. But I had to. I couldn’t go in to school tomorrow and have everyone staring at me. I would stand there like a complete idiot if I didn’t know what was happening. Sure that may sound stupid, but half the time the media has no idea what they’re talking about. I needed to be able to explain myself.

I twirled the string on my red hoodie. I was nervous. I waited for them to come back from commercial. They went through some fashion stuff, talked about Catching Fire, and finally announced something that caught my attention. “When we return, we’ll be talking about something all fan-girls love. Hollywood’s hottest male actors. Here’s the top ten list.” They show a list of names, most of them I recognize. I go up the list slowly. I reach the top three, in third place was Jeremy. I gasp and grab my phone off my desk. I had seen them do this before. They go through the first seven and then talk about the top three in a lot of detail. From covering their work, most recent appearances and movies, and, lastly, relationships.

“Hello?” Jeremy’s voice floats through my phone. I had put it on speaker.

“Put E! News on NOW.” I nearly yell from panic.

“Why?” He asks.

“They are doing top ten hottest, youngest celebrities.” I take a breath, “You’re number three.”

I hear the background noise change to the same thing as what my TV was blaring. He doesn’t say anything while we wait for show to come back on. “Jeremy?”

“It’s going to be fine.” I look at the phone and move it closer to me. The show comes back

“Welcome back!” The brunette host says, “If you are a celebrity crush type of girl, then we’ve got the things you want to hear! Hollywood’s hottest male actors under 30. Let’s see who the top ten are.” She proceeds through the list, a few catch my attention. Josh Hutcherson, Cody Christian, and Austin Mahone. “And now the top three. Taking the number three spot is sixteen-year-old Jeremy Shada.”

“It’s pronounced shade- AH!” Jeremy shouts on the other end. “Not shadaa.”

I giggle. “This teen actor has done a lot in his years in Hollywood. His best known work is voicing the cartoon character Finn the Human. The main protagonist in the hit Cartoon Network show called Adventure Time. He’s also had roles in animated movies like Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. He has appeared in several network shows including Lost. This actor likes to stay out of the public eye. But he’s no stranger to his fans. Most of them including teenaged girls.” Uh-oh. “But it is unknown that he dated any of them until now.”

“Oh glob no.” He says, I could almost hear him put his face in his hands.

“Shada was last seen with a girl Friday night at a local Cheesecake Factory. The first time she was seen with him was on is Instagram now two months ago. She was seen with friends, but her last appearance with Shada was what appeared to be a date. It is unknown whether or not they are in fact a couple. Sources say that while they were at the restaurant they acted as if on a date. This mysterious girl’s name is Taylor Swuarez.” They show some of my pictures from Instagram.
